I often hear clients say they'd like to identify a "diverse" candidate for a role or they'd like to create a better experience for their "diverse" employees. Here's the thing: diversity is an attribute of a group, not an individual.

This quote from Meg Bolger, social justice facilitator and entrepreneur, sums up this concept well.
