Beef Cattle Institute at Kansas State University

Last week, graduate students Jordana Zimmermann and Jacob Schumacher represented the team at the 2026 Animal Care & Handling Conference in Kansas City! From oral and poster presentations to connecting with animal welfare professionals from across the country — and hearing from keynote speaker Temple Grandin — it was a great week of learning, networking, and sharing research.

Huge congratulations to Dr. Fritz and Dr. White on their well-deserved recognition at the KSU Vet Med Senior Banquet!

Dr. Fritz was honored with the Zoetis Distinguished Veterinary Teacher Award, and Dr. White received the Pritchard Award — both reflecting the incredible impact they have on students, the veterinary profession, and the beef industry every day.

We’re proud to work alongside leaders who are shaping the future of veterinary medicine.

Over the years, BCI has had some incredible interns who help produce our Cattle Chat and Bovine Science podcasts. Ella Johnson, a current freshman in Agricultural Education, joined us last semester and has been a great help in getting our e-newsletter and podcast distributed. She will be missed, but we are excited to see all she will accomplish during her time at K-State!
