Supporting Our Seniors
As we age, our ability to sense thirst declines. For adults over 65, monitoring fluid intake is vital to prevent complications like confusion or UTIs. Staying hydrated is one of the simplest ways to stay out of the hospital. Contact your local extension office to learn about resources to help you stay healthy.

Hydration for All Ages (Kids)
Kids don’t tolerate heat as well as adults and often forget to drink while playing. Help them stay safe by scheduled water breaks every 15 minutes during activity. A goal of at least 1/2 cup of water during those breaks is a great start. Contact your local extension office to learn about resources to help you stay healthy.

Spotting Dehydration Early
Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink! Thirst actually lags behind your body's true need for water. Watch for these early signs of dehydration: fatigue or weakness, headaches, dry mouth, and difficulty concentrating. Contact your local extension office to learn about resources to help you stay healthy.

The "Urine Test" for Hydration
Wondering if you’ve had enough to drink? Check your urine! If it is clear or light-colored, you are likely well-hydrated. If it is dark and scanty, your body is signaling that it needs more fluids right away. Contact your local extension office to learn about resources to help you stay healthy.

What Are You Made Of?
Your body is mostly water! For adults, water makes up about 55% to 75% of your total body weight. Even your bones are up to 25% water. Since your body can’t produce enough water on its own to meet its needs, you have to replace what is lost every day through skin, lungs, and kidneys. Contact your local extension office to learn about resources to help you stay healthy.
