Join us to hear from Dr. Zifan Wan in our Grain Science Graduate Seminar Series!

Dr. Zifan Wan serves as Assistant Professor at the School of Agriculture at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where she leads a research program on cold plasma applications in dairy processing and food safety. Additionally, she holds appointments as an Affiliate Faculty in the Department of Food Science and Affiliated Faculty at the Food Research Institute, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Wan's published research covers atmospheric cold plasma technologies for microbial inactivation and quality retention in foods including cheese, shell eggs, juice and grains. She has also worked on dairy- and egg-derived lipid ingredients. Her professional background includes a postdoctoral research appointment in food science at the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture. Dr. Wan achieved her doctoral degree in food science and technology from Iowa State University and completed a bachelor's degree in food science from Purdue University.

Dr. Wan will provide an introduction to cold plasma technology and its applications in dairy processing. She will draw examples from her current research on Listeria control in cheese brines and plasma-activated water as a sanitizer, to highlight the on-going attempts in translating the technology to the dairy industry.
