I delivered my first quilt entry to the Kansas State Fair on the 27th. While standing in line I heard a gentleman introduce himself and his wife to the lady in front of me. His name was Mike. I instantly knew my Mike was there with me! He was my biggest supporter and often encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone. Today, I got to see my quilt on display, with its 2nd place ribbon attached. What a crazy and exciting moment!! Even better, I got to share it with Miles, my sister in law, niece, nephew, and Miles's friend.

Yesterday I had the privilege of delivering two very special quilts, made from the fabric stash of a family friend, Avis.

These quilts were made for her two adult children, giving some of her fabric a new life while keeping a little piece of her close.

I didn’t know Avis’s whole story, but I do know that she was someone who showed up for my family when we needed it. After we lost my mom, Avis, along with family and friends, helped us pull together an estate sale. I’ll always be grateful for the kindness and support she showed us during such a difficult time.

It feels pretty special to now be able to give her family something made from her fabric—something they can hold onto and hopefully treasure for years to come.

This is one of the reasons I love quilting so much. Every quilt has a story. Sometimes I get to know the whole story, and sometimes I’m just lucky enough to be a small part of it. 🩷

It was a beautiful night to work on this K-State quilt at Miles's first soccer practice of the season! I don't normally do binding by hand because I am way too impatient. But this one is special! Stay tuned for the adventure it'll be going on soon! Any guesses on what it'll be?

Today marks 16 years since I lost my mom, Rose.

She’s the reason I started quilting. After she passed, I inherited her sewing machine, and that’s where my quilting journey began.

She was talented in so many ways—quilting, painting, basket weaving—but what people remember most is how much she loved serving others. So many knew her as “Mom Rose.”

I’m thankful for the creativity she passed down and the way her legacy still lives on in every stitch. Missing her a little extra today. ❤️

Kinusaiga (pronounced kee-noo-sigh-gah) is a beautiful Japanese art form often called "patchwork without sewing."
Instead of stitching fabric pieces together, small pieces of fabric are carefully tucked into grooves cut into a foam or wood base to create stunning pictures and designs. The result looks similar to a quilt, but no needle or thread is required!

Originally, kinusaiga artists used scraps of silk from old kimonos, giving new life to treasured fabrics. Today, a variety of fabrics can be used to create landscapes, animals, flowers, holiday scenes, and more.

As someone who loves preserving memories through fabric, I think kinusaiga is another beautiful reminder that fabric can tell a story—even without a single stitch. I had so much fun making this today!
