A safe space for those whose gender identity is not heavily represented in the music industry

05/21/2026

Our synthesizer & singing bowl event last month turned out to be a VIP sound treatment for each student participant✨

Ambient music artist and sound healer .dhays brought their gears close to each participant for the acoustic resonances to vibrate within each one’s ears and internal organs. Experience was followed by a conversation about gender equality in the intersecting field of music, technology, and wellness.

Also, this month is the Mental Health Awareness Month! For each of you that cares about gender equality in music, please remember to take time and create spaces for yourself, and celebrate how far you’ve come along the way🫶be proud!

So honored to have Ana with us today to share her deeply vulnerable and honest artistic journey🙏🤍

04/28/2026

GEM is honored to host celebrated music artist Ana Roxanne for a guest lecture and screening of her most evocative performance works🤍

As we navigate the frantic pace of university life, Roxanne’s work invites us to slow down. We will explore how ambient soundscapes can act as a radical space for exploring gender, divinity, and the quiet power of the human voice.

The evening will feature:

Curated Screenings: A showcase of Ana Roxanne’s past performances.

Club Leader’s Fireside Chat: A guided conversation on the intersection of gender and the music industry, moderated by GEM president

Open Q&A: Your chance to engage directly with one of the most compelling voices in modern electronic music.

Come prepared to listen—not just with your ears, but with your whole self.

About the Artist
Ana Roxanne is a New York-based musician whose work sits at the delicate crossroads of ambient, electronic, and choral music. A graduate of Mills College, her formal training in classical Hindustani singing and jazz informs a style that is as technically precise as it is emotionally raw. Roxanne first garnered international acclaim with her debut EP, ~~~, and her follow-up album, Because of a Flower, which poignantly explores her experience as an intersex person.

Her practice speaks to the theme of temporality: the way time stretches, compresses, and disappears within a composition. By utilizing long-form drones and ethereal vocal layering, she creates a “sacred space” for listeners to reflect on the nuances of identity and the beauty of the unspoken.

Following collaborations with artists like DJ Python (their duo as Natural Wonder Beauty Concept), she is currently entering a significant new era of her career. Our event takes place just 24 hours after the release of her highly anticipated new album, Poem 1 (out May 1 via Kranky), her first solo full-length project in six years.

Get ready to submerge yourself in the silence between the notes and experience music as a form of radical presence!

*To keep it intimate, this event has a capacity of 25 participants. If you can’t make it, don’t worry! Check out the recordings of the session on our instagram page later.

🪷Synthesizer and Singing Bowl | A Sound Healing Session

In this event, two NYU students — certified sound healer Dhaykey Tsering, and electronic musician/therapeutic artist Cece Zhang (club president of NYU Gender Equality in Music) — are coming together to bring a short drone bath session with singing bowls and synthesizer, for participants to tune in, find calm, and connect through deep listening.

The event will have the participants sit or lie down in a comfortable position while have their eyes covered with blindfolds.

After the bath session, the room is open for feedback, sharing, and discussions about gender equality in two kinds of spaces: the wellness field and the electronic music field, and the intersection of both.
