👋 6 months with two little ones. Not sure where the time goes these days.

I'm starting a couple of my lessons today (middle school math) with this "who am I riddle?"

This question is great
-for problem solving
-to assess if a student knows what "sum" means
-to assess if a student knows what a "perfect square" is
-for students to see if they can devise a plan of action to figure this out

Give it a try in your next tutoring session or math class :)

Like many things on life we learn and grow from our mistakes! Don't be afraid to make them, it's all part of the process.

The SHSAT is sort of one of its kind in terms of testing! There are pros and cons. What are your thoughts?

This one is short and sweet! Answer it yourself, or pass it along to a student working on these concepts :)

I know and understand that learning differences exist. I know that for some people math may come "easier for them." What I also know, is that when we continue to say we are bad at something we get stuck in that mindset, and we don't give ourselves the opportunity for growth.

But maybe...
-we need to be taught something in another way
-we need to ask a few more questions
-we need more time to understand
-there is a small part of the concept that's holding us back
-we have anxiety about being wrong
-we think we are the only one who doesn't understand
-we need somebody to believe in us

What else would you add?

If you tried the riddle from last week, swipe to find the answer!

Teachers and tutors - feel free to use this in your class! I like using them as warm ups, extensions and ways to discuss important math terminology!

Curiosity- "a strong desire to know or learn something"

Our kids most likely will not be curious about everything we want to teach them, but we can hope and encourage them to ask questions, make connections, wonder!

Sometimes I get kids who say to me "who even thought of this?" and I love it. Where DID it come from? What is the history behind this concept?

Meet Teresa! 👋

⚡️She's currently teaching 5th grade, but has had many years teaching both 3rd and 4th grade in the classroom. ✏️
⚡️She believe that one of the joys of teaching is meeting students where they are at and working with them to not only succeed academically, but to also gain confidence in their abilities! 🧠
⚡️When Teresa is not teaching or tutoring she absolutely loves to read! Each year she challenges herself to read a certain number of books! 📚
