The Parenting Village offers parent education classes for moms and their babies with a focus on education, support, and connection.

Having a newborn can be isolating, and it is even more so now that we are mostly staying home and limiting interaction with those outside our immediate household. For that reason, we are especially excited to be starting our next session this week! Bringing together moms in a similar stage of life is our goal at The Parenting Village. Meeting other moms in Mommy & Me was a highlight of our first year with our kids and we believe it’s extra important right now! Our current session is full, but message us to be put on the list for our next session! We are excited to welcome our new moms on Wednesday!

Stuff we ❤️ Park Series!

One thing we look for in a park lately is, of course, a fun playground, but also lots of open space and a path for the kids to ride bikes or scooters. If the playground gets busy beyond our comfort level, the open space gives us another option. There are many parks in the area that fit this description! To name a few - Recreation Park in El Segundo, Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach, South Park in Hermosa Beach, Entradero Park in Torrance, and Vincent Park in Redondo Beach.

Happy 2021 Villagers! Kicking off the new year and our return to Instagram with a personal post. This little baby turns 21 today!! Happy birthday , love being your mom each and every day! For those mommas just beginning your journey, enjoy every minute! It all goes by in a blink! We are starting our January session soon, come build your village with us!!

We finished up our in person session at The Parenting Village this week! We were lucky to have Ashley from join us for a great workout! Stuff we ❤️ Park Series!

Now that parks are open, we’ve been all over town trying new parks and enjoying being back on the swings! For the next few weeks, we will feature a different park for STUFF WE LOVE! If you have a park to share, drop it in the comments below.

This week we are loving Rocketship (Los Arboles) Park in Torrance! Great views, tons of green space and a walking path, and fun play equipment. (Don’t forget your masks 😷 - photo in post pre-COVID 🤗)

Stuff we ❤️

This one might seem obvious, but a simple item we ❤️ are take & toss straw cups! They’re inexpensive, can go in the dishwasher, and you can easily buy replacement straws! We toss the straws every few months since my kids drink milk out of these. This week we are discussing feeding in class and we always get asked about cups and we have several other options to share, as well.

This week we discussed sleep in class - it’s alway one of the favorite classes of the session. Did you know the dreaded “4 month sleep regression” actually isn’t just sleep related? Around 16 weeks, your baby goes through some major developmental changes. They become more aware of their environment (especially when eating), they begin to have more adult-like sleeping patterns (waking on and off through the night), and they often begin to roll swaddled (meaning you have to get rid of it!). All of these changes often come together to mean a baby that was giving you a long nighttime stretch is now up in the night more frequently.

After this change, you may need to make some adjustments to get more sleep. Making sure to feed baby every 2.5/3 hours during the day, starting to practice putting them down drowsy but awake, naps and night sleep occurring in their safe place of sleep (naps in the living room and on the go become much shorter and less restorative after this change), and dropping some or all night feeds can help extend nights and give you a more happy and well rested baby.

Happy first day of school!

Today may not have been what you imagined or what you wanted, but we hope everyone made the best of it and had a great first day!

I “sent” my oldest to kindergarten and I’m not going to lie and say it was easy. I was emotional and I’m not sure what was normal “first kid goes to kinder” emotions and what was “this is in no way normal” emotions. BUT we got through it and will make the best of it for however long it takes!
