The Northrop Grumman Global Summit Innovation Challenge is back as an in-person event - at Mira Costa High School on Saturday!

The 2022 Global Summit Demonstration Day will be held on Saturday, July 30 from 9am-noon at Costa's Waller Football Stadium. It is open to families and students of all ages as well as the broader community, and should be especially attractive to those families whose students are interested in STEM.

Global Summit gives students a taste of Creative Engineering and is the culmination of more than two months of hard work for four teams of Northrop Grumman college interns and Mira Costa High School students. Overseen by company mentors, the teams spend long hours and late nights designing, building, flying and driving autonomous vehicles created with the goal of supporting a simulated disaster relief operation.

This year, there are a record 13 Costa students participating, comprised of students from all 4 high school grades who were enrolled in a variety of Technology and Engineering classes this past year, alongside the college interns and mentors from Northrop Grumman. This Design, Build, and Fly summer program challenges 4 teams of Northrop’s college and Mira Costa High School interns to each create unique RC/autonomously controlled vehicles to solve a humanitarian crisis.

It’s a great showcase for the type of partnerships that Mira Costa has with local companies and demonstrates some of the range of real world hands-on experiences that Costa can provide students.

Please get out and VOTE!

From today’s e-blast from our district-wide PTA presidents:

In order to protect and maintain our schools at the level we want for our children, we need a stable source of local funding. Measure A is the solution.

For those of you who have not yet voted, here are the three most important things you need to know about Measure A:

$1,095 is the amount required to bring our per-pupil funding up to the state average.
Measure A is intended to be the last education parcel tax in Manhattan Beach.  The 12-year term is designed to be the bridge to “Basic-Aid”, when our district will be self-sustained by property taxes and no longer reliant on the state funding in the manner we are today.
Manhattan Beach property values are 25-35% higher than neighboring beach communities.  This is a direct result of our high-performing schools.  Investing in the quality of our local schools protects our home values.
Don’t miss today’s email… and if you have questions about the measure, feel free to reach out to your nearest PTA president.
