The Manhasset Public School District and community lost a great teacher, coach, mentor and friend on Thursday, November 4, 2010, as Don Scott, science teacher, track and cross country coach for four decades passed away after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. On Sept, 29th Donald H. Scott will be inducted into the Nassau County High School Hall of Fame. His significant contributions to high school athletics in Nassau County have placed him among the finest of all time. He began his teaching career at Manhasset in 1968. In 1972 Coach Scott organized the first ever indoor track program. Among many team championships and coaching awards Coach Scott has the second winningest record among New York State Track & Field coaches. He has a career winning percentage of 94%. However the most important impact he had was in his dedication and support for his athletes.

Making It Count At The Don Scott 5K Run Manhasset residents dressed in bright yellow shirts filled the Mary Jane Davies Green on Plandome Road for the seventh annual Don Scott Memorial 5K run on Sept. 17.
