Directions Website

One River School One River School is a "new direction in art education". Today, our innovative program teaches thousands of students in fourteen locations across the U.S.

Founded in 2012, “one river” west of New York City, One River School® has developed a unique method for teaching art and digital design classes to people of all ages and all levels. Here at One River School, our students simply have more fun learning to create and produce compelling art. It is our belief that we are transforming art education®, as well as providing an experience that changes lives in the communities that we serve.

Meet Gillian. She’s a mentor at One River and a published cartoonist. She wrote The Archie Encyclopedia and colors for Archie Comics.

Gillian joined One River Frisco (TX) in high school, after taking a trial class on opening day. She became a member, then an assistant, then left for art school. “Four years and one degree later, I returned to One River as a teacher! After all those years away, I love our school so much and am so happy to be back.”

Her favorite classes to teach are grades 3 to 5 cartooning. It’s the age she makes her own comics for.

She shows young makers her work and how the skills they’re learning now can go professional.

Outside of class, she sews, reads books and comics (she owns thousands of them!), and sells her own comics at conventions.

One of her digital makers had gotten really good at Photoshop. Gillian asked where she learned it. “She had to remind me that I was the one who taught her Photoshop,” Gillian says.

Join us in welcoming our newest franchise partner, Kush Saxena.

Kush is a Plano dad, a One River parent, and now our newest franchise partner. Having watched what One River Frisco did for his own family, he wanted more families across the metroplex to have that too.

So he’s bringing it to them! Kush will open several new One River schools across Dallas-Fort Worth over the next three years, starting in Spring 2027.

He brings 20 years of senior leadership at Texas Instruments and Astera Labs, time as a Leadership Coach at UT Austin, and a steadfast commitment to local educators. In 2025 he founded XYF, a foundation that supports K-12 teachers across North Texas.

In Kush’s words:
“One River School will give children, teens and adults across DFW a place to build creativity, skills, and confidence through the visual arts, while creating meaningful teaching and career opportunities for local artists and educators.”

“Kush Saxena represents the kind of partner we are looking to work with as we continue to expand our mission of transforming art education nationwide.” – Agnes Mauro, CEO

Some of our best partners start out as One River families. Welcome to the team, Kush!

Thank you so much to Eden II's Genesis Programs for having us at their Blazing Trails for Autism walk this weekend!

We also want to give a special shout-out to several of our volunteer makers for the signs they made and displayed along the path! Great job to all!

SPRING/BREAK Art Show in NYC was the perfect way for our team to connect. Everyone had a unique perspective on what they enjoyed about the experience and which artworks sparked curiosity in them.

One overarching takeaway was the sense of community. Having the opportunity to converse with new and emerging artists, talk about the inspiration behind some of the work, as well as spend time with one another, were highlights for most of us.

We’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity, and looking forward to our next One River team outing!

Big news!

Our CEO, Agnes Mauro, has been named one of Franchise Dictionary Magazine's 2026 50 Women of Wonder.

This honor celebrates women leading the way in franchising, and we couldn't be prouder. Agnes leads with intention, empathy, and excitement while empowering every One River School to be a place where makers of all ages learn, create, and build confidence.

Join us in congratulating Agnes!
