I’ve been doing the same thing my whole life.
I became a Christian when I was 7 and I always joke that Jesus, piano, and cats all started for me that same year, so they’ve been impossible to separate from who I am ever since.
From there: college, then teaching high school choirs, some award-winning, touring internationally. Early jobs as a church keys player, a staff musician. The one time I tried something else, a grocery store job at Schwegmann’s for a summer in college, I hated everyday of it. 😂
My first music ministry was called Higher Call. It became CR91, built around Psalm 91, where “CR” stood for something bigger than my own initials: Christ Restores.
That’s when I released my 1st album in Nashville, and realized I didn’t just want to be a solo artist with a band. I loved collaboration, singing with people, building others up, leading. It was always ministry, never just the music. Music is just the tool.
So it became CR91 Coach, then Creation Voice in 2022 — built on science, creation, and scripture together, because no voice is the same, no instrument is the same. People still called me “a vocal coach” yes I’m good at it. But that never covered all of it.
Last year, a dear friend, Robin Creasman, finally helped me see why everything I do: songwriting, coaching, artist development, worship leading, singing, piano…has always been under one umbrella. Vocal producing. A producer wears many hats, but it’s not many things, it’s one. I’m so grateful to him for naming what I couldn’t yet see in myself.
Vocal production is artist development, songwriting, producing music in the studio and live. But the real heart of it is helping people find their purpose, their voice, their confidence ….living your purpose is worship. Not always about music. Often, but not all.
I’ve walked this road since 2000, still not fully figured out, but close to understanding how God made me, what He’s calling me to, and how the music I write and the people I help are all part of the same purpose.
