The annual East Kentucky Hay Contest offers local producers a valuable opportunity to receive free hay testing and nutritional analysis through the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service. Participants should contact Ashley Adkins, ANR Agent, at the Clay County Extension Office to schedule a hay sample collection. Hay samples will be submitted to the UK Forage Testing Laboratory, and producers will receive detailed forage quality results at no cost.

We encourage all producers to take advantage of this service, whether or not they plan to enter the contest. The goal is to help farmers better understand the nutritional value of their hay, make informed livestock feeding decisions, and identify opportunities to improve herd performance and farm profitability. Free forage testing provides valuable information that can help maximize the value of stored feed and support more effective farm management.

To sign up, please call the Clay County Extension Office at (606) 598-2789.
