There’s so much negativity around “the media” it’s easy to forgot the tremendous work being done every day by local journalists right here in New Hampshire.
Stories no one else is covering.
Last night, the Loeb School was proud to host the NH Press Association’s Distinguished Awards.
It was, as emcee Matt Mowry said, a recognition of “journalists doing their watchdog duty.”
Here are just a few of the stories that were recognized:
▪️ Personal story of living with long COVID
▪️ The state’s 11-year-old karting champion
▪️ A solutions story on tiny homes and the housing crisis
▪️ Water quality and health of our lakes
▪️ Families rebuilding after devesting fires
▪️ Farmers adapting to draught
▪️ How a pool hall field trip brought math and science to life for fifth graders
▪️ Detailed breakdown of the state’s budget and what is means for residents
▪️ Critical issues in the state’s home care system
▪️ NH’s manufacturing workforce
▪️ How city’s advisory committees operate with limited public transparency
▪️ The rise of wrestling in one small school
Thank you to the journalists, photographers, and everyone involved in creating and sharing the stories of our state – the big and the small; the good and not so good. Stories that make us mad, make us laugh, and make us cry.
Our right to a free press is worth celebrating and fighting for.
