Our counseling team is starting the school year with gratitude after receiving a $1,500 Hope for Heroes grant from Delaware County Pay It Forward, Iowa at the end of last school year! 🧡

The grant will support supplies, events, and other resources for Lil’ Hank Days and our Together We Are activities throughout the school year.

We are grateful to Delaware County Pay It Forward for investing in opportunities that bring our students and school community together! 🙏

Collaboration can make a meaningful difference for students, and the team supporting Lambert Elementary student Kahler recently had the opportunity to share his story with educators from across the state. ⭐️

Nancy Hepker, Teacher of the Visually Impaired, and Christi Imsland, Special Education Teacher at Lambert Elementary, led a 90-minute session at the Iowa Educational Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired Summer Institute titled “The Wonderful World of Kahler.”

Nancy and Christi shared how Kahler’s family, teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and AEA partners work together to make learning accessible. From providing braille while classmates view information on the smart board to adapting materials for tactual learning, the team continually adjusts its approach to support Kahler’s learning and grade-level expectations.

Through videos, materials, interviews, and Kahler’s own perspective, attendees got a firsthand look at the planning, communication, and teamwork behind his success.

It takes a village, and Kahler has a wonderful one cheering him on. 🧡

We were glad to welcome all staff back yesterday as we prepare for the 2026-27 school year! 🍎

The day began with breakfast sponsored by Merit Construction Company, which is currently completing work on our courthouse and wanted to give back to our community. A special thank you to our school board members who served the meal!

Certified success coach Heather Woody also shared an encouraging message about the impact our staff members make each day.

It’s great to have our staff back together and preparing to welcome students! 🧡

Meet Nathan Goranson, our new 7th grade math teacher at West Delaware Middle School! 🌟

Nathan previously taught 7th grade math at Oelwein. Last year, he joined West Delaware as a long-term substitute in Lambert Elementary’s special education behavior classroom.

Nathan is also no stranger to West Delaware athletics. He has served as head cross country coach for the past two years, and last year, he was an assistant coach for 7th and 8th grade girls track.

Outside of school, Nathan enjoys running, watching anything related to Star Wars or Marvel, and playing video games. He is the youngest of three siblings—and all three are West Delaware graduates!

We’re glad to have Nathan continuing his work with West Delaware students in the classroom and beyond. 😀

Our FFA chapter has earned a 2-Star rating in the National Chapter Award program! 🌟

This national recognition is based on the chapter application our students completed this spring. Fewer than 10% of FFA chapters nationwide are receiving a National Chapter Award star rating this year, and only 28 chapters from our state received a rating.

Our members will have the opportunity to be recognized on stage at the 99th National FFA Convention and Expo. We are proud to see their hard work, leadership, and accomplishments recognized at the national level!

Thank you to everyone who supports our FFA chapter and helps create opportunities for our students to learn, lead, and succeed. 🚜
