The second you add strumming and try to keep time, everything you thought you knew seems to vanish. That's because you're doing three unlearned things at once — remembering the shape, moving your hand, staying in time. Nobody ever broke that apart for you. This isn't you falling behind. It's the truth finally catching up to why it always felt impossible.

Ask most students to play a G chord cold, out of nowhere. Then ask them to play it in the middle of a song they know. Nine times out of ten, the cold version is shakier — sometimes it doesn't come at all.

That's not a memory problem. It's what you were taught to memorize. Most people learn a chain of finger movements from whatever chord came before it, not the actual shape. So the chord only "works" in the order you practiced it. Change the order, and it falls apart — and it feels like your fault when it's really just how it was taught.

You didn't quit guitar.

You quit a method that was never going to work for you.

No feedback. No structure built for an adult schedule. No one telling you when your hand was doing the wrong thing versus when you just needed one more week.

That's not a you problem. That's a fixable problem. Over the next few weeks we're going to unpack exactly where it breaks down — starting with the single biggest reason chords never felt like they clicked.

Not the excuse you give people. The real one.

"Life got busy."
"I felt stupid every time I picked it up."
"I honestly couldn't tell if I was doing it right."

If any of those sound familiar — drop it in the comments. I'll tell you right now: none of them mean you don't have what it takes.

"I'm probably too old for this."
"I don't think I have what it takes."

I hear one of those two lines from almost every adult who walks into a first conversation with me. And almost every time, neither one is true.

What's actually true: they tried to learn guitar the way a 14-year-old with three free hours a day learns guitar — random YouTube videos, no one watching their hands, no idea if what they were doing was even right. Of course it didn't stick. That's not a talent problem. That's a method built for someone else's life.

Ever wonder what real progress looks like?

They all hit plateaus. Now they’re trading riffs, swapping stories, and actually enjoying guitar.

No more guessing. Just steady wins, clear feedback, and a crew that gets it.

Curious how they did it? Drop a comment or DM me—let’s talk about your next breakthrough. 🎸
