Our visitor center & underwater viewing window, adjacent to our fish ladder, allows visitors to see and learn about migratory fish. Yes, visiting is FREE!

Exciting Fishways Announcement! We will keep offering in-depth, expert-led tours of our site until July 25th. Tours at this point in the season get the unique opportunity to see the fish ladder without water, providing a greater glimpse into our underwater world!
Today (7/14) is the LAST DAY the Fishways Visitor Center is open for the 2025 Season! Stay tuned for more Fishways Updates!
Don't wait to see the Fishways! Our tentative CLOSING DATE for the 2025 season is Monday, July 14th. We hope to see you here!

There is more to discover at the Amoskeag Fishways than just fish! We have more than fifteen bird species that can regularly be observed around our visitor center—including bald eagles! Can you spot the bald eagle in this photo?
The Fishways Visitor Center will be closing for the season in one week (more information to be posted soon), be sure to check us out before then!

It's eel season at the Amoskeag Fishways! American eels are the only catadromous fish that travels through our fishways as they return from the Atlantic Ocean to their freshwater homes. Stop by the fishways for a chance to see some eels today!

Looking for a fun, educational experience this summer? Stop into Amoskeag Fishways and learn about migrating fish, the history of the Amoskeag Dam, and the interaction between the built environment and the natural world! If you would like an even greater experience, we also offer tours!

Sea Lampreys have made it to the fishways! These prehistoric, anadromous fish have remained nearly unchanged for 340 million years and unlike many other fish, lampreys lack scales and fins!
