Studio 550 Arts Center offers clay and stained glass workshops to teach you how to mold your own creations. We love sharing the joy of creating things by hand with our community and want you to join in on the fun too.Our friendly and knowledgeable teachers are here to share techniques and tricks of the trade, and help you make your own masterpieces -- no experience necessary. Join our seasonal sessions for more in-depth training. You can also book parties and events at our studio for private group lessons. When you’re here, you’re free to let your imagination soar to new heights.

A Skutt Kilns is a classic trap for this type of critter.

Have you ever wondered how your work gets fired so quickly? Or where things disappear to when you can’t find the piece you put on the shelf?

Now we know.

To explain, Monica is changing the elements. This is not how it’s normally done… but it’s what was happening when other staff happened to walk by.

The very dramatic lighting was also an accident- a result of not wanting to waste electricity and light the whole room when all that was needed was light in the kiln.

What a GREAT arts community we have here.

It was a blast to meet our neighbors and see the caliber, diversity and creativity in their work!

So many passion projects, side hustles and minor/major obsessions materialized and collected all on one street….

Thank you Manchester Citywide Arts Festival and The Palace Theatre for making a celebration of arts happen in our city.

What’s that gorilla hiding from?

This session’s ’Illustrative animal sculpture’ class has resulted in some surprising creations.

These are from the opening exercise of picking from a bowl of adjectives and a bowl of animals and you make what you get. We’re missing pics of the cheeky deer, excited giraffe, and wild rabbit.

Stay tuned for pics of the student’s focus projects. They are in progress and pretty impressive!

Happy Labor Day weekend, Studio friends!

We had the absolute pleasure to give back to teachers throughout our community this past week.

We gave back in the best way we know how: sharing the experience of making art together!

On Tuesday the public middle school art teachers of Manchester gathered at Studio 550 for a hands on clay activity as well as coaching and Q/A about kiln use, studio safety, recycling clay and troubleshooting common studio issues.

We also sent Lee-Ann to the gem of a community Mill Falls Charter School to lead a clay activity as well! The photos are from this excursion.

Next week we welcome the elementary school art teachers of Manchester’s public school! Thank you for all you do for our kiddos! Hope you had fun playing with clay!

See you Saturday, Monster Hunters!

Each monster we put out there is handmade by someone at our studio.

NEW FREE CRAFT this year: you can build a monster dream home out of cardboard and upcycled craft supplies! Check out our reel a few days back for a beach cabana and library example.

You’ll also be able to tie dye a studio t-shirt, try the pottery wheel, build a monster plant habitat, pick up some coloring pages created by local artist Mattea Schevey and enjoy discovering downtown!

We are also kicking off the comic contest… find a monster and get some inspiration for your story!

Stop by the The Manchester City Library at City Hall for a free book and Queen City Cupcakes & Gift Shop ! They’ll have a free monster cupcake for the first 100 monster finders!

There is so much more to discover downtown… make a day of it.
