Kennebec Valley Youth Symphony Orchestras

Kennebec Valley Youth Symphony Orchestras KVYSO support & inspire young musicians to strive for musical excellence. The conductor, Dan Keller, is well-known in Central Maine and beyond.

All music students interested in performing with other excellent, committed middle & high school musicians are invited to audition for the Kennebec Valley Youth Symphony Orchestras. Kennebec Valley Youth Symphony Orchestras has greatly nurtured and inspired music students in central Maine. The Kennebec Valley Youth Symphony is the most advanced group attracting student wind and string musicians fr

om grades 7 to 12. They come together to play orchestral music conducted by Jinwook Park, who also conducts at Colby College and for several Boston ensembles, including the Philharmonia Boston Orchestra. Kennebec Valley Youth Orchestra, the intermediate group, is open for students with playing levels equivalent to Suzuki book 4 to 6. He has been inducted into both the Maine Music Educators Association Hall of Fame and the National Music Hall of Fame for Music Educators. His conducting career includes work with the Bangor Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Portland Junior Youth Ensemble; he is currently Co-Conductor of the Mid Maine Youth Orchestra and on staff at Southern Maine String Camp. His playfulness & exuberance – and his commitment to mentoring young musicians – shine in his work with students of all ages. KVYS and KVYO are offered as enrichment for young Maine musicians who continue to play in their school and community orchestras and ensembles. Tony Antolini, director of the Bowdoin College Chorus and conductor for the Mozart Mentor Orchestra, raves, “If one were to hear these players on the radio without seeing their ages, it would be startling to learn how young they were!”.
