MCC Excursions in Learning Youth Programs

MCC Excursions in Learning Youth Programs Excursions in Learning is an educational enrichment program for youth (grades K-8) at CT State, Manchester (Manchester Community College), Manchester, CT.

Excursions' instructors are experienced professionals and certified teachers and include artists, musicians, museum educators and media specialists. Several of MCC's own faculty and staff also teach in the program. More than 70% of the instructors have taught in the program for three or more years. FALL & SPRING SATURDAY CLASSES:
The Fall & Spring Excursions in Learning Program offers more than 30

different courses on Saturday mornings October -December & February-April. JULY PROGRAMS:
Technology Camp is a hands-on one week, full-day program in July for students who have completed grades 5-8. There are two different sessions, based on a variety of engineering themes. This program receives funding from the College of Technology and a grant from the National Science Foundation. Youth Culinary Institute is a hands-on, one week, full-day summer program in July for students completing grades 5-8. There are three identical sessions. Participants use MCC’s state-of-the-art culinary labs to learn about food safety and prepare a variety of healthy, delicious dishes from hors d’ouevres to desserts. Adventures in Leadership is an exciting, one-week, full-day program in July for students who have completed grades 5-7 or 8-10. Specially trained instructors use Manchester’s nearby Ropes course facility to build confidence, agility and promote leadership skills. AUGUST -- THE SUMMER ACADEMY FOR GIFTED & TALENTED YOUTH:
The Academy is a two-week, full-day program (usually scheduled for the first two weeks in August) for gifted and high-achieving students who have completed grades K-8. Over 30 different classes in a wide variety of subject areas are generally offered. Full and half-day programs (9 a.m.–noon or 1–4 p.m.) are available. A supervised lunch hour is provided for students who stay all day. In addition, A.M. and P.M. Extended Day sessions offer pre- (8–9 a.m.) and post- (4–5 p.m.) care for working parents.
