Meet our SOTA Interprofessional Healthcare Forum (IPHF) Liaison, Aisha!

My name is Aisha Yesufu. I chose OT because I love helping people do what's most meaningful to them from a holistic perspective.
I am excited for my new role as IPHF liaison because I love advocating for the importance and value of occupational therapy to other healthcare professionals.

Our first-years are eagerly preparing for final exams next week! In their Clinical Reasoning course, students had the opportunity to create a visual mind map to review and connect topics reviewed over the semester.

Key concepts that students learn in Clinical Reasoning include the domains and scope of occupational therapy practice, the process of delivering OT services, and activity analysis. Knowledge and skills gained during this course serve as a foundation for other courses throughout the rest of the program!

"The most basic difference between physical therapy and occupational therapy is that a PT focuses on improving the patient's ability to move their body whereas an OT focuses on improving the patient's ability to perform activities of daily living."

Diving into the Lab with Douglas Simmons PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA, director of the Occupational Therapy program at MCPHS | MCPHS University With a new semester kicking off on the Manchester campus, occupational therapy students will soon be gaining hands-on experience in the lab.

"I think it has made me realize that I won’t know everyone’s story. For instance, if I’m working in a pediatric clinic, I won’t know what the kids are going home to, or what resources they might lack. That’s part of the MCPHS coursework, but until you really have those experiences, it’s difficult not to assume that everyone has the same resources and opportunities as you."

Arianna Harris, MSOT, On Her Long-Term Commitment to Volunteer Work in El Salvador Arianna Harris, MSOT, is already finding ways to give back: every summer since her freshman year of high school, the New Hampshire native has traveled to El Salvador to volunteer in a single village, San Jose Villanueva.
