The DiBona lab is live imaging zebrafish fry larvae again, and these microglia-macrophage immune cells are dynamically “dancing” during a 5-minute ZStack/Time Lapse!!!

These images are extra special as our NH-INBRE summer research students captured them without Dr.DiBona for the first time using the campus Leica THUNDER scope. Get up and dance with them.

Last week on a rainy reading day, the Department of Biological Sciences celebrated this year’s seniors and all they have accomplished in their time here. Congrats to all of you!
And an extra congratulations to Colin Surdam and Jack Clark for winning this year’s Bio poster awards! In a department first, both tied for the Professor choice and people’s choice (ie students in Gen Bio) award!

Rylan Scaglione recently completed a semester long internship working at London Family Orthodontics. Rylan came to college knowing he wanted to work towards a dental health career, and was interested in orthodontics. Even though Rylan had found an internship opportunity himself at a family dentistry practice, Dr. Helen Markewich, our department’s internship coordinator, suggested he reach out to London Family Orthodontics as a previous intern had an amazing experience with them a few years ago. Rylan decided this opportunity was too good to pass up after meeting Dr. Danielle London and Alex London. Rylan said “When I had my interview, the company seemed very organized and put together, extremely professional, and Alex introduced me to the entire team with a personalized tour. Overall, I felt a connection with the London family, and I felt this was where I should intern.” Rylan recently presented on his experience at the Saint Anselm College Biological Tri-Beta Initiation Ceremony last week, sharing his learning journey both in the internship class, BI451, and in working about 10 hours per week with London Family Orthodontics. “My experience working with London Family  Orthodontics really prepared me for life as an orthodontist. Dr. London provided me with a customized training, showing me what she does day-to-day, as well as her goals in professional treatment planning and overall care for her patients, which allowed me to get a full picture of this career. This whole experience confirmed my desire to go to dental school and continue towards an orthodontic path.”

Many of the inductees were juniors, all looking forward to possible internships over summer and through next year. We are grateful for students sharing these rewarding experiences and for our internship partners, like London Family Orthodontics, in offering our students their time, knowledge, and dedication.
