Tonight, everything is ready and waiting. Tomorrow, math, art, music, and questions fill these rooms again β€” and the outdoor classroom is ready too.

At Red Fox, the campus isn't a backdrop for learning. It's part of the curriculum.

Last weekend's weather made for a perfect Green Mountain Bluegrass and Roots Festival, practically in our back yard. Our Red Fox table was busy, creative, and full of laughter all weekend with wonderful music playing throughout.

Kids spent hours on wand making, pencil pinwheels, and coffee-filter flowers and butterflies β€” simple, hands-on, a little bit magic. The bubbles were pure joy for kids and adults alike.

Current students, alumnae, and multiple generations of Red Fox families showed up to help and welcome. That's how far the Red Fox branches reach.

"Some more special things about Red Fox are that most schools that I went to give 30-40 minutes of outdoor time. Red Fox gives an hour and a half."

That's what one of our graduating 5th graders had to say about her time at Red Fox. And it's not just more time outside β€” it's the curriculum.

Students spend 90 minutes outside every day, in any weather, applying what they're learning in real, unscripted ways.

Schedule a tour to see it for yourself.

What do you see up there?

Our kids would find a dragon, a wolf, maybe a fox. Summer is for big skies and bigger imaginations β€” and we can't wait to see what this fall brings.

The first peas of the season are in. 🌱

Back in early May, students tucked seeds into the raised beds β€” peas, parsley, scallions, collards, Swiss chard, basil, and tomatoes. Small seedlings in a Vermont spring, which requires a certain faith. This week, that faith paid off.

This is what Life Skills looks like at Red Fox: not a worksheet about where food comes from, but actual dirt, actual seeds, and a garden that reports back. Children learning through doing, growing, and tending β€” and then tasting the results.

Intentionally small. Deeply personal. Purposeful and real.

For six graduating Eagles, this spring held a lot of lasts. Last day in Hawgolwood. Last spring play. Last time being the oldest kids in the building. On graduation day, teachers and students lined the path to cheer them into one final ceremony in our backyard theater β€” where each graduate received a book chosen just for them, gave a speech that moved everyone to tears and laughter, and heard the words they'll carry into middle school: Go Toward Something.

Phoebe, Hunter, Allison, Rudy, Marcel, and William β€” we are so proud of you.

One of the last days of school at Red Fox Community School means honoring a distinctly Vermont tradition: the swimming hole. This year it was the West Branch of the Batten Kill.

Students flipped rocks to see what was living underneath, tested how the current changed where the riverbed dropped, splashed through the fast part and tiptoed through the deep part.

It was a cold day for a river trip β€” cold water, cold air, and not a single kid who cared. On a day like today, we'd all trade places with them in a second!

At Red Fox, outside isn't a reward for finishing the real work. It is the real work. A river in June teaches things a worksheet can't: how water moves, what lives where, and how to keep your footing on slippery rocks.

3… 2… 1… and the whole field erupts. The rocket launch station was new at this year's Country Fair Day and watching students count down, cheer the liftoff, then sprint across the grass to retrieve the rocket was the perfect way to close out the 2025–2026 school year.

All the Country Fair traditions were there too, wrapped in sunshine and a whole lot of gratitude for the families, teachers, and friends who made this year what it was.

See you next year! Watch the full rocket launch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbRYZcHtA5M
