All students at 44 schools will receive free breakfast and lunch during the 2023-24 school year as part of the Community Eligibility Program (CEP). Seven schools have been added to CEP this year.

Today we remember when the last of the enslaved African Americans in Texas learn of their freedom. Happy Juneteenth.

“During the American Civil War President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. The proclamation made slavery illegal in the states of the Confederacy. The Confederate states did not follow that law; however, as soon as Northern troops captured a region, the people who were enslaved in that region were freed. The last area to fall to the Northern troops was Texas. When Northern soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865, they brought the news that slavery had been abolished.”
