No school tomorrow!

Remember when I stated the school board wanted a raise? City council gave themselves an 89% pay raise - how much do you think school board will vote for? Earlier buzz was to go from $12,000 to $20,000. I hope you attend or follow up! Make your voices heard through emails or speaking at school board meetings during citizens time!

There is a School Board Work Session tomorrow, Thursday, October 23rd at 5pm at 8700 Centreville Road, 4th floor conference room. The discussion agenda includes legislative priorities, preparation for the upcoming joint meeting with City Council, a professional development exercise, and the topic of School Board member compensation. If you cannot attend in person, Work Sessions are now streamed and recorded just like Regular Meetings 🎥 Please note that formal votes are only taken at Regular Meetings. Items on Work Session agendas are for discussion only.

Tonight’s Town Hall for School Board was interesting. The top four topics from the survey were:

1. Grading Policy
2. Calendar
3. Communications
4. Start and End times

My only wish is more people attended. Change only happens when we all show up, speak up, and support each other.

Did you know our School Board is proposing a 67% pay raise—an extra $8,000 a year?

They currently make $12,000 to help thank them for their time and gas. Many don’t realize these elected roles are paid at all.

Their reason? “No raise in 10 years.” But only one member has served that long. Three have been on for almost four years, and three for less than one year.

Meanwhile, staff just secured a 6% raise thanks to City Council for giving more funds to the school system after the school board sent out a letter asking citizens to comment.
