Now accepting new students in violin, viola, bluegrass fiddle, and cello in Old Town Manassas.
Christopher Sexton is the owner and teacher of Sexton Music Studio, a private strings lesson facility in the heart of Old Town Manassas. Teaching violin, viola, cello as well as bluegrass fiddle, Chris has been teaching private and group lessons for more than a dozen years through Contemporary Music Center in Chantilly, Picker’s Supply in Fredericksburg, Foxes Music in Falls Church, American Child
ren of SCORE in Warrenton, and through the Prince William and Fairfax County school systems. Now fully in his own studio, Chris is currently accepting new students for lessons in all skill levels. Chris excels in working with folks just starting out on an instrument, kids with challenging attention spans, home-schooled families, and middle and high schoolers looking for that added edge to compliment and build upon their orchestra classes. Christopher Sexton received his Bachelor of Music in Music Performance with a Minor in Voice from the Shenandoah Conservatory of Music (http://www.su.edu/conservatory) in Wi******er, Virginia in 1997. Chris followed that up with his Master of Music Pedagogy from the Shenandoah Conservatory of Music in 2010, with a 3.90 GPA. In addition to his formal education, Chris also attended the Suzuki Institute in 1998 for teacher training, and also was on the bluegrass faculty for Common Ground on the Hill’s bluegrass camp (sponsored by the DC Bluegrass Union) in 2007. An accomplished performer widely recognized in his field, Chris has been a member of the award-winning bluegrass band Nothin’ Fancy (http://www.nothinfancybluegrass.com) since 1998. Nothin’ Fancy has grown into a regional touring force, and are the three-times running Bluegrass Entertainers of the Year SPBGMA (Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music Association) award winners for 2008, 2009 and 2010. All told, Nothin’ Fancy has been nominated individually or as a group for no fewer than 33 SPGBMA, IBMA, and GMA Dove Awards. Chris has been honored to perform and work with many of the best and brightest in bluegrass, classical and chamber music as well as contemporary rock and popular music, including Rhonda Vincent & The Rage, Sam Bush, Patty Loveless, the Manassas Ballet Theater, and the Loudoun Symphony Orchestra. Chris and Sexton Music Studio is a proud member of the Manassas Old Town Business Association (OTBA), Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), the National Association for Music Education (MENC), the Manassas Art Guild, Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music Association (SPBGMA), International Bluegrass Music Association (IMBA), and the DC Bluegrass Union (DCBU). A lifelong Northern Virginia local (yes, they still make those!), Chris makes his home in Manassas, just south of the Manassas National Battlefield Park. Chris is currently accepting new students in violin, viola, bluegrass fiddle and cello.

Hiya folks! In my official capacity as co-owner and operator of Nothin’ Fancy LLC, I am letting folks be aware of my band’s festival in September and everyone is welcome for sure. Robyn, our event coordinator, has shared on the Nothin’ Fancy page and the festival page as to other options of where to stay nearby as we will be packed in tight for 2026. This is a good problem to have, but none of us want that to be a reason not to come. Read Robyn’s post, and if you really want to come, there are options for you. Let’s make our 24th Annual Nothin’ Fancy Festival the best yet and keep going onward and upward from there! 😁
Hey folks! My bluegrass band, Nothin’ Fancy, is playing in Old Town Manassas on Saturday 12/6 at 7:30pm, and you (yes, YOU) are invited! Ticket link below, go get yours!
Hey folks! My bluegrass band Nothin' Fancy is making our annual December return to Old Town Manassas, in the very same building where I teach! Y'all come! Saturday 12/6, 7:30pm, all ages, doors at 6:30pm. Ticket link below.
Attached here is the nomination ballot for SPBGMA. We won Entertainers of the Year from this organization six times, and it would be great to add a seventh trophy - or more if possible.
The thing is, ANYONE can vote for this. You do not need to have SPBGMA membership. Just fill out the ballot and send it in. You migh actually have to print it and fill it out physically, but we’d appreciate any help. We only have until October 21 to get this accomplished, but at least help us get nominated!!
Key nominations: Promoter of the Year (Robyn Wines); Bluegrass Songwriter of the Year (Mike Andes); Bassfiddle Performer of the the Year (Jenkins); Guitar Performer of the Year (Curt Gausman); Mandolin Performer of the Year (Mike Andes); Banjo Performer of the Year (Jacob Flick); Fiddle Performer of the Year (Chris Sexton); Male Vocalist of the Year (Mike Andes); Bluegrass Gospel Group of the Year (Nothin’ Fancy); Bluegrass Vocal Group of the Year (Nothin’ Fancy); Bluegrass Instrumental Group of the Year (Nothin’ Fancy); Bluegrasd Band of the Year (Nothin’ Fancy); and Entertainer(s) of the Year (Nothin’ Fancy).
Want to give your little one a leg up on their orchestra schooling in violin, viola, cello, bass, or piano?
Want to pick up an instrument yourself?
We've got you covered. We're in Old Town Manassas and would love to schedule your complimentary first lesson. Call/text Chris Sexton at 703-975-5075 with questions and to inquire!
So I did a thing. My second solo project, “Proof” (an all-classical project which I recorded starting in 2006 and released in 2013 where I am playing all the instruments) is now released on all the music media outlets courtesy of CD Baby!!
If you have not had the chance to get it at one of my shows, now you can download it from just about any online source. There’s even a movement from my String Quartet No. 2 if you would like to hear an original work. Go check it out - search for “Chris Sexton” on your preferred online music source and it should come right up along with my first solo effort, “Coffee at Midnight.”
Enjoy!!!

Well heck, we’ve been nominated for Best of Prince William 2025 for music studio! It’s under the Arts/Entertainment tab. Give us a vote?
Here’s a great new teaching tune I learned while in Tahiti:
Just play B-A-B-A-B-A-B-A-B-A… (first finger and open A) over and over again, and you will sound exactly like an ambulance driving through Papeete. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Can’t wait to teach that to my students!! 😁

It's a good problem to have when time slots are filling up! But if you're really wanting to learn a musical instrument, here's what I offer:
* violin
* viola
* cello
* double bass
* piano
* fiddle
Now's the time to act if you want to start up on lessons. Contact me at (703) 975-5075 (phone or text is fine) to schedule a complimentary lesson and get started as early as next week. I've been in business for over 10 years right in the heart of old-town Manassas and still going strong. I also offer virtual lessons to folks that really want to study with me but are just a bit far away. I'll be right here - assuming I'm not already busy teaching!
