Something we think about a lot: the world is loud, bright, and fast, and it's built almost entirely for people who don't notice that.

For a lot of kids (and adults) on the spectrum, a "normal" grocery store trip or classroom or birthday party is a full sensory experience happening all at once. What looks like "just walking through Target" can actually be a lot of processing, all the time.

We don't think enough people talk about how much energy that takes, or how much strength it shows.

Parents and caregivers: what's a place or moment where you've seen your child work hardest to manage sensory input? And for adults on the spectrum reading this, what do you wish more people understood?

Back to school looks different for every family, but for so many of our autism families, it's a season of its own kind of hard.

New teacher. New room. New sounds, new smells, new schedule. For a child who thrives on predictability, that's a lot to process all at once, even when everyone is doing everything right.

We've watched parents carry so much quiet worry this time of year: Will she have a good aide? Will he find one friend? Will the teacher understand him without me having to explain everything?

If you're a parent right now holding that worry, we see it. And we'd love to hear it too.

What's been the hardest part of this transition for your family so far? Or if you're past the tough part, what helped?

πŸ’™ Social connection changes everything.

For many children with autism, the desire to connect is there - but the skills to navigate social situations need to be taught. That's where ABA therapy makes a real difference.

Our social skills approach includes:
🌟 Turn-taking and sharing in natural play
🌟 Reading social cues and body language
🌟 Starting and maintaining conversations
🌟 Joining group activities confidently
🌟 Building genuine friendships

We don't just teach scripts - we help children develop authentic connections that feel natural and joyful.

From parallel play to true friendship, we've seen the transformation. And we believe in your child's ability to connect too.

Back to school checklist for autism parents πŸ“‹πŸ’™

Before the first day, ask your ABA therapist:

βœ… Are therapy goals aligned with classroom needs?
βœ… Does session timing need to shift for the school schedule?
βœ… How do we track progress across both settings?
βœ… What strategies can I share with the teacher?

School and therapy work best when they work together.

Save this checklist and bring it to your next therapy session. And if you're not sure where to start β€” we're here. Link in bio to connect with our team. πŸ‘†

New classroom. New teacher. New smells, sounds, and seating arrangements.

For kids with autism, back to school isn't just a transition it can feel like sensory overload from day one.

Here are a few things you can share with your child's teacher right now:

πŸ‘‚ What sensory overload actually looks like for YOUR child (it's not always a meltdown, sometimes it's shutting down or zoning out).

πŸͺ‘ Simple accommodations that make a big difference: preferred seating, noise-reducing headphones, a designated calm-down space.

⏱️ The power of a sensory break BEFORE overload happens, not after.

Teachers want to help. They just need the right information from you.

What's one accommodation that has made a real difference for your child at school? Share belowπŸ‘‡

Back to school season can feel overwhelming when you're wondering if your child's teacher truly understands their needs.

Here's the truth: the most powerful thing you can do before the first bell rings is make sure your child's school team and their ABA therapy goals are speaking the same language.

A few things to bring to your next IEP meeting:
βœ… A one-page snapshot of your child's current ABA goals and what strategies are working at home
βœ… Specific examples of what triggers look like AND what helps your child regulate
βœ… A clear ask for how progress will be communicated between school and therapy

You are your child's best advocate.

Drop a πŸ’™ below if you have an IEP meeting coming up this fall. We'd love to help you feel ready.
