The Power of the Appoggiatura, or, How Adele Makes You Cry Every Time.

Learn about the connection between music and emotion via this article on appoggiatura--ornamental notes that create just enough dissonance to build tension. We often encounter appoggiatura in classical music studies, but this device is applied often in pop music, as well!

Researchers have found that certain features of music are consistently associated with producing strong emotions in listeners. Combined with heartfelt lyrics and a powerhouse voice, these structures can send reward signals to our brains that rival any other pleasure.
