Today, FFA members Bailey Upshaw, Laney Upshaw, and Nellie McDonald traveled to Ash Flat to compete in the Subarea LDEs. We would like to congratulate them on conquering the challenge of public speaking.

Laney and Nellie competed in the Job Interview event, while Bailey competed in Prepared Public Speaking. Bailey will advance to the District Contest in Jonesboro on January 16. Congratulations to all three for representing our chapter so well!

Our chapter had an unforgettable experience at the FFA National Convention in Indianapolis!

Day 1:
After arriving in Indy, we kicked off the trip with some spooky fun at The Thirteenth Hour Haunted Attraction. The night wrapped up with bowling and a few games of pool.

Day 2:
We began the day with a fascinating tour of Ozark Fisheries, where we learned all about the process of breeding Koi and Goldfish and how they’re shipped across the country. In the afternoon, we visited the Indianapolis Zoo and later enjoyed an incredible concert featuring Ella Langley and Ernest.

Day 3:
Convention day! We spent the day at the FFA Convention Center, starting with an inspiring opening session featuring keynote speaker A’ric Jackson. Afterward, we explored the FFA Mall for some shopping and stopped by the Expo to visit with different companies and colleges. The night ended with plenty of laughs at the Hypnotist Show.

Day 4:
We loaded up the bus and made the long drive home, tired but full of great memories and new experiences

I thought this deserved its own post. While down at in-inservice I attended a mock Poultry CDE contest. I was able to refresh my knowledge and learn more about the different areas of the contest. These included grading the interior and exterior of eggs, identifying carcass parts, grading carcasses and carcass parts based on USDA standards, placing live birds/shanks in order, how to give reasons, determining quality factors for further processed poultry meat products. The only thing we missed was the exam.

If that seems like a lot it is! All of the CDE contests have just as many or more parts to the contest. Students every year study to compete in CDE contests against other schools. This is just a little preview of what the students do when we compete!

I spent last week down in Hot Springs for the annual Ag-teacher inservice. Throughout the week Arkansas FFA prepared many workshops we could attend. I was able to attend some and have many takeaways and awesome ideas to bring back and use in the classroom this upcoming year. These were just some of the many opportunities I was able to attend!

Last week was the Fulton County Fair! Even with stubborn livestock and hot July days we had a great time!
