The top lot at Doyle New York was Mary Elizabeth Price’s "Flower Border I" and "Flower Border II" which sold to the
James A. Michener Art Museum, Doylestown, Pennsylvania, for $306,250.

According to an entry in Doyle’s catalog, Price (1877-1965) had ties to the art world in both New York City and Bucks County, Pennsylvania. She lived for many years at 140 West 57th Street, New York City, a building in which studios and residences were provided to artists. She also taught art to public school children. The artist returned to Bucks County in the late 1920s and lived in a stone cottage she named the Pumpkin Seed. She is best known for her elaborate flower garden paintings. The oil on board panels, one with gold leaf and the other with gold, silver, and copper leaf, each 50" x 19½", had an estimate of $60,000/100,000, and they are signed and inscribed. The price was an auction record for Price.
