This weekend the team competed in the District 1 AAA North Championships. Congratulations to all of the wrestlers who competed in the 14 team tournament. Placing for the Patriots were Tyler Humpreys in third place, Casey Capetola in 6th place, and Nick Mort in 6th place.
Special Congratulations to Tyler who is now 26-4 for the year and will be advancing to the Regional Championships this Friday and Saturday at Souderton High School. Thank you to Emily Stahl Photography for some outstanding pictures for Senior Night last week. The team wrestled a tough Radnor High School squad and came out on top 42-27.
This weekend the member of the team are competing in the District I North AAA Championships at Pottstown High School. Wrestling started on Friday night and will resume this morning at 9:30 am. Over the past weekend, members of the Great Valley team participated in an individual tournament at William Tennent High School. Pictures from this event are attached to this post.
During the week, Great Valley faced Radnor High School for Senior Night. Thank you to the cheerleaders, students, and members of the community for coming out to support the team and fill the gym. Fortunately, the Patriots did not disappoint as they came out on top 42-27 in a spirited team effort to conclude the regular season.
Members of the Great Valley team will now set their focus on the post season. On Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd, individuals will be wrestling in the District 1 AAA Section North Championships which will be held at Pottstown High School. Youth night brought out a large crowd Wednesday - thank you for coming out to support high school wrestling!
The Patriots fell to Unionville 45-27 in the league contest. This week Great Valley will face West Chester Rustin in an away match on 1/29. Mark your calendars for the last home match of the season which will be senior night vs. Radnor High School on 2/12.

Great Valley hosted the Great Valley Invitational Tournament which included a total of eight wrestling teams. In the first round the Patriots defeated Harriton High School by a score of 42-25. In the second round, Pennsbury High School beat the Patriots 52-6. The Great Valley team then lost a close match to Academy Park High School by a score of 30-28 to finish in 4th place on the day.
Great Valley will be hosting a string of home wrestling matches. The first is teacher appreciation night on Wednesday the 15th vs. Sun Valley High School. Then on Friday the 17th, the Patriots will have another home match against Church Farm School. We hope to see you there!

Over the winter break Great Valley was in action at the Delco Duals which was held at Academy Park High School. The Patriots started the tournament with a 66-12 win over South Philadelphia High School. Then, Great Valley overcame LaSalle College High School in a close 36-31 victory. In the finals, the Patriots were defeated by Elco High School 49-21 to take second place in the tournament.

This week Great Valley wrestled a close and exciting match with league opponent Kennett High School but unfortunately ended up on the losing side of the 43-34 contest. Great Valley heads into the holiday break with a 4-2 record for the season. The Patriots will now prepare themselves for the ChesMont Wrestling Championships which will take place this weekend at West Chester Rustin High School.

Great Valley got off to a good start to the season with a second place finish in the Knights Duals at Academy Park High School. The Patriots bested Bensalem High School 40-34 and Academy Park High School 45-27 before losing in the finals to Ridley Park High School 42-36.
The Patriots then wrestled in their Tuesday night home opener vs. Upper Merion High school, Great Valley came out on top with a 51-15 victory. Next, the Patriots next have two away matches at Phoenixville High School on the 11th and then Kennett High School on the 18th.

The first week of the 2019-2020 wrestling season is now completed. The team ended the week with a scrimmage which included wrestlers from Radnor High School, Episcopal Academy and Faith Christian Academy. The team will continue training in preparation for their first competition which will be December the 7th at Academy Park High School.

Thank you for coming out this evening to support the high school wrestling team for our fundraiser at Chipotle located on 50 National Avenue in Malvern. It was a huge success. Special thanks to our friends at Chipotle who were so generous with their time and financial support. Chipotle is actively looking to hire Great Valley students right now so please pass this along to students who may be interested.
The season begins on Monday, November 18th with the team's first practice. Special welcome to new head coach Bobby Lavelle who wrestled at Council Rock South High School and Virginia Tech University. Good luck for a successful season!
