Good-String cover felt helps protect strings from dust, moisture and dirt and won't effect the sound.
Bad-Having full sun on a piano. Hurts tuning stability, can cause sun bleached keys and dry wood. Tons of string tension in a piano.
Use curtains to protect it.

Had the pleasure to tune a nice grand piano for a 10 year old who the mother told me practices 6 hours a day. More on weekends. Currently enrolled in the Juilliard Pre College division.
He plays well. Nice to see results of effort.
