Today with fellow Matt Mac Ansley McStravog at the Lazaretto in Tinicum, Delaware County, which served as the quarantine station for Philadelphia from 1799 to 1893. The Board of Health Records show that Lazaretto Health Officer Samuel R. Franklin and "Agent on the Delaware" Captain Brown boarded the John Stamp in June, 1832, and "found her perfectly clean fore and aft." Their purpose was to ascertain whether there were any sick passengers on the vessel, which carried 47 of the 57 workers under Philip Duffy who died in the Duffy's Cut incident later that summer. The report further states that "no vessel has arrived here from an infected port." The ship was allowed to sail on to the port of Philadelphia, where Duffy or his agent brought them to work on mile 59 of the Philadelphia and Columbia Railroad. It demonstrates that the Duffy's Cut 57 did not bring cholera with them across the Atlantic and that they therefore contracted cholera at their work site subsequent to their arrival in Chester County.
