If you could have any superpower or magical ability, what would you want it to be?
Teleportation because I love to travel, but I’m anxious on airplanes.

Meet Woodfin Millay Billingsly. Woodfin has been an Academic Success Coach and Technology Assistance Peer Tutor since August of 2024. That means they can help you figure out how to study, plan your projects, and access your D2L and other technology tools available from Kish.

Do you have study tips or college success ideas to share?
Prepare for studying before you start. Organize what you're going to be using beforehand so you can find it easily and don't have to stop in the middle to find a pencil, paper, eraser, calculator, et cetera. Figure out and write down what chapters & pages you need to review, use the index/table of contents to find where each section is placed in your textbook. Try to ask any broad questions you may need answered to start an assignment, project, or study session a few days before you start - to give professors time to respond. Try your hand at making a structured plan before you start studying where you list out the concepts, questions, problems and topics you need to focus on, and in what order.

What was your favorite subject in school?
I have always been a Science nerd. As someone majoring in Biology, anything about the world, environmental cycles, bugs, animals or plants always held my interest. The intricacies of our planet, how everything has evolved to work together and make sustaining, viable, thriving ecosystems delights me. In college, learning about how humans affect, both positively and negatively, the environment, makes me feel like I'm learning what I was always supposed to be learning.

What’s your favorite food or type of cuisine?
I’m a big fan of Chinese American cuisine like orange chicken, sesame chicken, crab rangoon, as well as fried rice and stir-fry. I’m also a big fan of pollo burritos from small, hole-in-the-wall restaurants throughout Northern Illinois.

If you could have any superpower or magical ability, what would you want it to be?
The ability to teleport. The ability to go wherever I want without travel would make my life much easier and more enjoyable. I’d love to visit the tops of mountains, oceans, and see penguins, okapis, shoebills, phasmids, and see anything and everything I can.

Do you have study tips or college success ideas to share?
Use your resources - form peer study groups, ask the instructor (after class, by email, during office hours), consult and read class materials, visit an academic success coach, meet with a tutor, study in the library, use library databases, ask a librarian for help. Most importantly, just do your best and ask for help.

What was your favorite subject in school?
Spanish

What’s your favorite food or type of cuisine?
This should be its own cuisine: ice cream, gelato, frozen custard, frozen yogurt, sorbet, etc.

If you could have any superpower or magical ability, what would you want it to be?
Understand what people are saying and why they are saying it without them having to say it. Sort of like empathetic mind-reading.

Do you have study tips or college success ideas to share?
Learn how to ask for help. It is a life skill!

What was your favorite subject in school?
In grade school and high school, my favorite subject was orchestra. I made great friends and it was fun to create something together every day.

What’s your favorite food or type of cuisine?
I want to try whatever the locals are excited about. It’s even better if it is spicy.

If you could have any superpower or magical ability, what would you want it to be?
Healing any type of illness or injury, from physical to emotional and psychological.

This is Angela Marcelino, our Library Technologist. She started at Kish just this summer!

Do you have any study tips or college success ideas to share with students?
As a pen and paper girly (which is funny considering my job position), I think it’s important to have a physical planner to block out your schedule. It got me through undergrad, my MA (while I was working two part-time jobs in addition to teaching and going to classes full-time), and it’s currently helping me through my PhD.

What was your favorite subject in school (grade school, high school, or college) and why?
I guess these haven’t changed much from high school, but English (I love reading and writing, and I never had a bad English teacher), Theatre (not the hugest fan of acting in plays, but I LOVED doing musicals), and Music (I was in choir and vocal ensemble, and it was really my personality for a long time lol).

What is your favorite type of food or cuisine?
I LOVE Filipino food since it’s one of the things that helps me feel close to my family who are back in California, but I like to give myself an EE rating: Eat Everything.

If you could pick any superpower or magical ability, what would it be and why?
HMMMMM. This is honestly a difficult question. I don’t know what it would be called, but maybe the ability to manifest whatever I imagined when I wanted to?
