I was recently reviewed by my four toughest critics (pictured) & am proud to say they still want me for the job.

My kids provided a little feedback on their favorite thing about dad & how he makes school fun. I hope to bring some of this same enthusiasm for helping our communities grow & learn as a member of the Klamath County School Board:

Parker (5th Grade at Malin Elementary)–
- My dad works really hard during the day on the farm and when he comes home at night, he takes the time to work on homework or play sports with us.
- Dad is really good at math and helps me understand my homework so I learn and feel more confident at school.

Graham (3rd Grade at Malin Elementary) –
- I like that he is a farmer and that I get to go with him to farm.
- I like that he takes me to school every day and that he brings potatoes for the whole school to eat for lunch.

Marley (1st Grade at Malin Elementary) –
- He is always nice, and I love him.
- He plays fun music when he takes us to school and came to my class to sing songs and play the guitar.

Elliott (4 years old at Malin Community Preschool) –
- He is fun to play tee ball with and he takes me bike riding.
- He helps me pick out my show and tell toys and work on my ABCs.

As a parent of four young KCSD students, I have had the opportunity to meet the teachers, tour the classrooms & participate in the enrichment activities which our District delivers for our youth.

I’m inspired by the dedicated staff, enthusiastic supporters & outstanding students throughout KCSD. It’s amazing to see what we can accomplish when we help one another & work towards common goals of strong schools, strong students & strong communities.

I’m proud to be representing Zone 3 in this year’s KCSD School Board election. I would be honored to represent you, my friends & neighbors, and help sustain the excellence of our home & community.

Marc had the opportunity to share a little more about his candidacy for KCSD School Board in a recent Herald & News feature.

Here’s what Marc had to say:

H&N: What in your background gives you the skills to succeed in this position?

Marc: As a member of numerous public and private boards of directors and advisory committees, I have developed a skill set that includes sound communication, responsible decision making and a solid understanding that I am the representation for my peers, colleagues, and community. I currently chair a board that works directly with public funds and am an advisor for a local financial institution. My knowledge as a business owner and employer will give me a unique perspective as a school board member. On top of my experience, I am a KCSD parent. I am committed to success, for my children and the students of our Basin.

H&N: Why did you decide to run for the seat?

Marc: I am running for this seat as a parent of four young children and a strong community advocate for the success of the youth and communities of the Klamath Basin. I have a heart for serving our community and understand the importance of supporting future generations. Seeing the need, my wife and I created successful reading and food programs in our local schools. The youth of the Klamath Basin are our future and I look forward to the opportunity to have a more direct impact on their educational years as they build the confidence and skills needed to succeed.

H&N: What are Klamath County schools doing well and what do they need to improve?

Marc: KCSD has schools with the highest graduation rates in our state; remarkable FBLA, FFA, STEM programs; state championship athletics. I would like to see schools capitalize on their successes and collaborate with each other to build comparable programs. I would like to see more enrichment classes in both our elementary and junior/senior high schools. Our smaller schools were some of the first in our state to reopen amid the pandemic. I see the significance of smaller class sizes for both students and staff. By investing in infrastructure, old and new, we can achieve smaller classes and a healthy, thriving school district in our community.

H&N: How will you measure the success of the board during your term?

Marc: I will measure the success of the board by the confidences built throughout my term; confidence by our students, teachers, staff, administrators and community. Klamath County is a diverse community, and I would like to see a school district that capitalizes on all our unique qualities and perspectives. I will measure the school board’s success by our community’s enthusiasm to have their children in our schools and by sharing proud ownership of our district. Our Basin is rich in history and a strong school district will be a leading factor in our future and for future generations to come.

Thank you, Herald and News, for giving our community a closer look at this year’s KCSD School Board candidates.

Marc Staunton: committed professional, engaged community representative, decorated dancer.

While Marc is well-known for his approachable demeanor and thoughtful decision making skills, he has also been recognized in the community for his sweet dance moves.

In 2016, Marc had the opportunity to represent his family’s farm in the third installment of “Dancing with Your Klamath Falls Stars”. As a good sport & all-in participant, Marc danced his way to a mirror ball trophy at the beloved Ross Ragland Theater.

Even more-so than winning the title, Marc was proud to represent his friends and neighbors while creating connections with folks throughout Klamath County.

Marc is eager to bring the same enthusiasm, dedication and fresh perspective to the Klamath County School Board. Be sure to vote “Marc Staunton” on May 18th to add a lot of know-how and a little extra rhythm to KCSD.

I believe that the best ideas come from those with first-hand experience.

As the only Zone 3 candidate who lives & works in the Merrill-Malin area, I am dedicated to advocating for the needs & ideas of our communities.

Klamath County School District is a strong, safe place for our children to grow & learn. Help me sustain our schools, build our communities & bring your voice to KCSD with a vote for Marc Staunton on May 18th.

Of all the hats I wear, "coach" is one of my favorites.

I've learned a lot through connecting with, guiding and encouraging the teams I've helped lead. Cultivating comradery & understanding the needs of each individual helps build a strong, supportive group that can accomplish great things.

As a School Board member, I intend to bring the same approach to supporting the needs of our District. My engagement on the ground level allows me to understand & advocate for our communities while sustaining the success of our students & schools.

I believe one of the best ways we can learn is by asking questions & listening intently. If you have any questions for me, let's talk...you can catch me anytime, setting up tees & cheering on the students of KCSD.
