Staying curious about your own limits is one of the best things you can do as a practitioner. At the Academy for Guided Imagery, we train people who bring that same curiosity into the room with their clients ✨

That instinct is pointing at something real. At the Academy for Guided Imagery, we train practitioners in a method that goes deeper without directing, one that trusts the client's inner process to lead the way.✨

Every practitioner eventually hits a place where their tools take clients as far as they can go, and then stop. At the Academy for Guided Imagery, we train clinicians, educators, and practitioners to find the doorway on the other side of that wall ✨

This month, we are proud to spotlight John Kessenich, Associate Director of the Academy for Guided Imagery and a faculty member with over 15 years of experience working with imagery.

Through his imagery practice, Inner Mythology, John specializes in working with deep resistance, fear, and performance optimization. His approach emphasizes allowing imagery to unfold naturally, creating space for meaningful insight and change without forcing the process.

Influenced by thinkers such as Joseph Campbell, Krishnamurti, and Thich Nhat Hanh, John brings a thoughtful and integrative perspective to his work, bridging inner exploration with practical application.

We’re proud to have John as part of the Academy and to highlight his contributions to the continued evolution of this work ✨

Dr. David Bresler co-founded the Academy for Guided Imagery in 1989, not because he had all the answers, but because he kept asking a question that the field hadn't answered yet:

"What happens when we stop talking at people and start listening to what's already inside them?"

Over 35 years later, that question is still at the center of everything we do.

Sometimes the work isn’t about giving people something new, it’s about helping them access what’s already there. This is the foundation of the Academy for Guided Imagery, and it's why we don't cut corners on training ✨

IGI℠ is not hypnosis.

We get this question a lot, and it's worth answering clearly because the distinction matters both ethically and clinically.

For practitioners who care deeply about the scope of practice, this distinction is foundational.
