The semester kicks off next week with NSO and then classes starting the following week, so faculty are hard at work getting ready to greet students. From playing around with our new printing press, there's lots of fun being had on campus!

One of the most exciting, and at times most terrifying, parts about an English degree is that it can prepare you to pursue so many different careers. And sometimes your skills plus connections you can make in LA can lead to incredible opportunities. While at Pepperdine, Presley Jones was an English major with an emphasis in Writing and Rhetoric, and she has now begun working as an executive assistant for...someone we can't name for privacy reasons đź‘€ ...

Congratulations, Presley!

Summer travels are almost over, and it's so fun seeing everyone's adventures! Yidan and Adrinna have just returned from the Great Books program in London, and they had this to share about their trip:

"We are learning about female British writers as a part of the Great Books program! In London, we get to connect them to their famous landmarks and stories through field trips, walking tours, coffee shop class discussions, and more!" -Adrianna

“It has been a great time in London! I’m really glad we’ve had the chance to visit the places where the writers we read about once lived, hear their stories, and see their influence continuing in this city and the world!” -Yidan

We love hearing about the adventures our students are having abroad! Abigail has been in London this summer for an internship and sent an update about her experience:

"I have always been someone with the personality of an indoor cat, but in London I find myself being an entirely different person. The beautiful chaos of the city draws me out of the house for daily excursions, from seeing musicals on the West End to visiting countless art and history museums. As a student and intern in the UK, I have a unique perspective on what it means to be a Londoner: I am studying modern British drama in the morning and working with researchers on British policy during the afternoons. The truth is that I have completely fallen in love with London, and a part of me deeply dreads leaving where I would refer to as my second home. However, I do not view my upcoming departure as a forever goodby, but as a prelude to the more spontaneous life I plan on living ahead, bringing home that same zest for life in order to take advantage of every opportunity to try something new. In the end, I know that God is leading my future steps, and therefore, the best is yet to come. And who knows! I may be finding my way back to the UK for graduate school."
