Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Connecticut each have laws enabling the creation of accessory dwelling units (ADU). Some, like Massachusetts and Maine, just recently passed their new laws, others have been on the books for a few years. The public’s response to these law changes is considerable and you will see these assignments become more common. We wholeheartedly agree. Bias in appraisals is not only unethical—it’s illegal. However, this campaign unfairly targets a profession built on independence, impartiality, and consumer protection. In a powerful response, Sandra K. Congratulations to Carmen Cruz, who was recently awarded a scholarship by the Chapter's Hewitt Scholarship Committee to attend the General Appraiser Site and Cost Approach course this November at the Courtyard by Marriott in Woburn, MA. Carmen, a recent recipient of the Appraiser Diversity Initiative scholarship, is a Chapter Practicing Affiliate working towards her Certified General License. She resides in Newport, Rhode Island. When asked about the impact of the scholarship on her goals, Carmen shared, "This is a great opportunity to connect with others in the classroom. It's an advantage to take the class in person."
