Since 1932, Malden Catholic, an independent, college-preparatory school sponsored by the Xaverian Brothers, has created a family-like community of faith that has fashioned young men of character entrusted by their families to our care. We are thrilled to be able to extend this same opportunity to young women with the establishment of Malden Catholic's Girls Division in September 2018. A codivisional Catholic high school for young men and women, Malden Catholic strives to maintain the intimacy of its beginnings as a parish high school that prepared generations of students for rewarding college careers, success in a variety of professions and endeavors, and meaningful personal lives. At Malden Catholic, students thrive in a nurturing environment that fosters academic excellence, character formation based on Christian values, and personal achievement. First day of school vibes continue as we wrap our first full week of classes tomorrow! 🍁 🎶

Today marks 25 years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001. We honor the 2,977 lives lost, stand in unending gratitude with first responders, and remember the families and communities forever changed. We will never forget.

O God of love and healing, look with compassion on those of us who commemorate the victims of September 11, 2001, in scenes of incredible violence and pain at the World Trade Center, in Shankesville, Pennsylvania, and at the Pentagon. Grant eternal peace in your loving presence to all who died that day: the heroic first-responders -- our fire fighters, police officers, emergency service workers, and Port Authority personnel -- along with all the innocent men and women who were victims of this tragedy. We ask you, in your compassion to heal the pain of still-grieving families and all who lost loved ones in this tragedy. Give them strength to continue their lives with courage and hope and grant each of us the wisdom and courage to work tirelessly for a world where true peace, tolerance, and love reign among nations and in the hearts of all. We pray these things through Jesus, our brother. Amen.

Malden Catholic hosted our annual Freshman BBQ yesterday! We welcomed 9th grade and transfer students and their families to campus to get to know each other and settle in. It was wonderful to see our first class of 8th graders continuing their MC journey as High Schoolers and to witness this wonderful community come together - it's going to be a great year!

Our newest international students went on Malden Catholic’s annual welcome field trip. Along with Mrs. Di Marco, Director of International Programs, a few parents, guardians, senior volunteers, and chaperones, the group enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Woodman’s of Essex. The restaurant even had us on their welcome sign.

After a delicious meal, we headed to Gloucester Harbor to visit the Gloucester Fishermen’s Memorial. From there, we went back for the Essex River Cruise, where, even with the rain, we enjoyed a beautiful ride from Essex Harbor, past clam flats and historic buildings, to a view of the open Atlantic Ocean and back to the Harbor.

Our senior volunteers were Devyn Di Marco Davila of Malden, Isaac Luu from Vietnam, Rogan Li from China, and Mozart Pyae of Myanmar. The newest international students on the trip are from China, Germany, and Italy.

On August 2, 1854, Theodore James Ryken, the founder of the Xaverian Brothers, arrived in New York City with five other Brothers, who then made their way to Louisville, Kentucky, their first American mission. They arrived there on August 11, the day now popularly known by the Brothers as Watermelon Day. Xaverian lore has it that the Brothers’ first meal in Louisville was the gift of a watermelon from a local woman who offered some kindness to the bedraggled lot. She represents the many people who have assisted the Brothers in ministry for over 170 years by generously giving of their time, their treasure, their prayers and their presence. The Brothers currently sponsor 13 schools in the United States and have a growing ministry in Africa.

The Blackout t-shirts have become much more than just a shirt or a ticket to a football game. They are a powerful symbol of community spirit and support for local children and families who have had to endure all that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Participating towns/schools encourage everyone to wear their t- shirt on the day of the Blackout Football Game to demonstrate unity and raise awareness. T-shirts from previous years are usually seen all over the schools/towns for the weeks leading up to the Blackout day and often become beloved parts of children’s wardrobes. Thousands of t-shirts are sold each year.
