Now that the emotions have evened out and we’ve tackled the sleep deficit, it’s time to put a cap on this season. On Thursday our State qualifiers mixed it up with the best in Class C1. Ultimately it was a day of mixed results and emotions. While we didn’t get as many finalists as we had hoped for, we’re incredibly proud of the efforts they gave.

Senior Nate Maddox made his second trip to State for Extemporaneous Speaking and first for Serious Prose.

Sophomore Cameron Schumacher earned his first foray into State competition with his Humorous Prose piece

Seniors Reegan Bixenmann, Ruby Bostock, Logan Schumacher, Bryson Leffers & Gracie Ensrud added to MHS’s proud history in OID by bringing home the Bronze.

Ruby & Reegan added to the medal haul with a 5th in Duet, while Gracie brought home a 6th in Persuasive.

As we team we finished 9th overall for our 7th Top Ten finish in the last ten State Championships. This group of Seniors has been special. Leading us to five tournament titles this season. They’ve also helped bring home four straight conference and district titles.

Beyond the trophies and medals, they’ve been a joy to coach and have represented their school & community the right way. Their contributions will long be remembered. 💙🤍⚓️

For the second time this season the Malcolm speakers made the slightly southeast trek to Conestoga, only this time it was for the second biggest meet of the season, District C1-1. After some seriously tough preliminary rounds we led the way with 16 of our 20 entries into finals. From there it was a metaphorical fist fight with Freeman & Lincoln Lutheran. But in the end the kids brought home Malcolm’s fifth consecutive District title. All told we are taking seven speakers in eight events to our 12th consecutive state tournament. Special shoutout to Reegan & Logan who led the way by qualifying in three events each, and Reegan with a District Championship in POI!

On this second Saturday of March your Clippers took the 45 minute bus ride northwest to the David City Invite. In what is arguably one of the most competitive meets of the season MHS represented very well with 17 breaks (10 in varsity, 7 in jr varsity) MHS brought home a 7th place finish at the varsity level, and a 2nd place (including hardware) for the JV squad.

For the second time this season the Malcolm Speechers hit I-80 East for the 60 mile trip to Plattsmouth HS, this time for the Blue Devil Invite and they had a (good) devil 😈 of time! In a field of 23 schools your Clippers put on a show with 17 breaks into finals, four event champs & four top novices. Putting an exclamation point on the day, Grace Ensrud & Cameron Schumacher went 🥇 🥈 in the individual sweeps. It all added up to a fourth team title and a happy bus ride home.

A wild day to cap a wild week of weather that really took a bite out of our practice time, but the kids still stood tall. We boarded the bus before the break of dawn to head 86 miles west on I-80 for our first ever run at the Northwest Viking Voice! With nine breaks & 10 event medalists, your Clippers finished 6th in a field of 16!

For the eighth consecutive time your Malcolm Speechers are conference champions (5 ECNC, 3 Trailblazer)!!!

It was an extra special Valentines Day as we headed east on I-80 to host Plattsmouth HS for the third annual Trailblazer Conference Speech Tournament and the kids did not disappoint. Taking home not only the championship, but a conference leading five event champions.

Special shoutout to our hosts from Plattsmouth who not only provided a great day, but some very tough competition.

Another step in the journey is complete! For our second competition of the season we headed 55 miles east to the Campus of Conestoga HS for the 13th Annual Conestoga Trendsetter Invitational, and for the sixth time the Malcolm Speechers walked away as Tournament Champions. Lead by a group of seniors & juniors that’s finding their stride, and some outstanding performances from some of our freshmen and sophomores, it added up to a big day for Malcolm Speech.

Hello and welcome to the start of the 2024-25 Malcom HS Speech season!

For our first test of the season we took a quick trip over to Raymond Central for our annual kickoff to the season, and the newly renamed, Central Players Snowpocalypse.

Despite holding some of our rookies back (a chance to learn the ropes free of stress) our crew of 17 acquitted themselves quite nicely. In a field of 32 schools we finished sixth with half a dozen breaks. Leading the way was Senior Ruby Bostock who finaled in three events, Entertainment, Duet and OID.

Now that we’ve had some time to get home, get some sleep, and let the dust settle we can look back and smile at what was another great season for Malcolm HS Speech.

While we didn’t get everything we wanted from the State Tournament there is much to be proud of.

-Dalton Amen triple medaled
-For the fifth time in the last seven state tournaments MHS finished inside the top three.
