Today is Childcare Matters day! To show our support we wear purple and you may see signs at our facility. We donāt know how many of you are aware of the recent decisions that the Idaho Legislature has made, but their decisions have affected all of Idahoās childcare centers and could potentially affect many families in Idaho. So, childcare centers around the whole state are taking a stand! The State of Idaho has decided to deny a grant that has been helping this facility and many other facilities across Idaho stay open and function due to the effects of COVID-19 and the economy. Idaho is the only state in the whole nation that denied this grant to continue, and they only gave us a 2 week notice that funds would be discontinuing the end of March. In addition to the grant that helps the facility and helps keep parent costs down, they also denied the grant that was given to each employee, they were receiving a monthly sum called the wage enhancement grant, which these women have come to depend on and with limited notice told that they would no longer be receiving it. As you can imagine this has put a significant strain on the Child Care profession as a whole and affects all of Idaho, also it affects the families of Idaho. The loss of these funds could potentially shut down well over half the centers in each city in Idaho.
Today many facilities in Idaho are participating in a āMarch for Childcareā. We support this cause!
We wanted to help spread awareness about what is going on with all of you. Without these funds there will be no childcare, without childcare there will be loss of jobs affecting our families, without childcare our community suffers as well with not being able to find people to work.
The hope with this āChildcare Mattersā day is to spread awareness! If you have used or participated in childcare use your voice! Email or call our legislators! Together we can make a difference and our children are worth it! Thank you all for your support!
