Montessori School of Maui The Montessori School of Maui provides a comprehensive curriculum from early childhood into adolesce

The Montessori School of Maui, founded in 1978, began by serving just 8 students. Over the years the school has evolved to a lovely 9-acre campus serving over 280 students, from 18 months to the 8th grade. The school employs a collaborative learning environment, based upon the time-honored principles developed by Dr. Maria Montessori over 100 years ago, designed to stimulate each student's critical thinking skills, cultivate inquisitive minds and empower children to actively participate in the rapidly changing environment of the twenty first century. The Montessori teaching methodology is uniquely based upon observation, peer learning, tactile learning materials and intrinsic motivation. Within each classroom, multiple grades or levels of students are combined, creating an environment whereby students serve as leaders for one-another. These elements all come together to create a truly distinctive and remarkable approach to education.

This school year, we’re excited to welcome an incredible group of top-notch Montessori Educators to our MOMI ohana! From Oahu, to St. Louis, to Dubai, and beyond - they’ve all enthusiastically taken the leap to join us here on Maui and we couldn’t be happier.

They are beginning to arrive on island, and before they dive into work with our students in August, they’re taking time to settle in and explore Maui. 😎

ATTENTION MOMI FAMILIES: Montessori School of Maui is closed today, Friday, January 10, 2025. The unpredicted storm created road closures and debris issues that would make travel to and from school unsafe for many families and staff.

We’re so proud of our Upper Elementary students and all the hard work that they poured into their Island Project Showcase yesterday!

The students designed 33 unique islands, including hand-drawn maps, photo collages, and informational and creative writing pieces that brought each island and its culture to life.

Last year, our middle schooler’s discovered this little wooden house on the back of a shelf and decided they’d like to turn it into a birdhouse. They painted it, drilled the puka, added the perch and mounted it in front of their classroom.

Today, when the students rescued a stunned dove that had flown into their classroom window, this class birdhouse, built with love, was the perfect place for the sweet creature to rest and make a full recovery, before flying back off, into the trees.

Doves are considered by many to be a sign of hope, love and freedom, and are often a universal sign of peace - all things we value highly at Montessori School of Maui. 🕊️
