Kenny Garrett has to be one of my fave alto players and this take on Cole Porter’s tune, Night and Day, is classic. Working on trying to emulate Kenny’s inflection and learn from his genius in developing motivic Ideas is a lot of fun. His voicing is a lot different than someone like Paul Desmond so it’s fun to challenge yourself to work on different alto sounds and figure out how these cats found their own ‘voice’ on the horn! 🙌👏🏻

Summer fun… I was reminded of this great solo today and had to play through it.. still remember it from years ago, transcribing it. This is a classic Paul Desmond solo on his tune ‘Take Five.’ The tune is in the time signature of 5/4 and became one of the most popular tunes on the record, Timeout. 😎🙌 🎶

What a throwback! First show in a real rock band circa 1997 😳🤘😎 that’s right kids DRF Music Studios played in a garageband that led to us playing shows, touring, recording albums and even selling our own merch. Signed a few autographs too… 🤦🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️😏

Hey kiddos, Stetson Saxophone camp starts next week. Hope y’all have a wonderful time. I came across this old video from 2022. See if you can spot your ‘young’ self. This was the ‘Saxophone Things’ (stranger things) 80s themed camp. How fun… students volunteered and recorded this track. Anyways, here’s a blast from the past. Have a great workshop next week!!
