Drop-off tears are one of the hardest parts of starting something new, for kids and for parents. πŸŽ’

If your child is heading into preschool this fall, here's the good news: crying, clinginess, and a little resistance in the mornings are all completely normal. Most children settle into a new routine within two to four weeks.

The biggest things that help? Talking about school early in simple, positive terms. Visiting the classroom before day one. A predictable morning routine and a consistent goodbye ritual your child can count on every day. 🌟

Swipe through for what to expect in those first few weeks, and how to support your child at home while they adjust. Link in bio to read the full guide.

Fifteen years ago, Laura joined COA Oswego right from the very beginning, and this school has become a second home ever since πŸ’œπŸ§‘πŸ’™

In that time, she's watched Oswego evolve through different leaders, teachers, ideas, and policies, growing through every season of change. Along the way, Laura has stepped into several leadership roles, always ready to help manage and support the school wherever she was needed.

Over the past couple of years, under Ms. Karla's leadership, Laura has grown tremendously, not just professionally, but in her confidence, her mindset, and her outlook.

Today, she serves as our Program Coordinator, working alongside teachers to help them grow, reach their goals, and build the best possible environment for the children and families of Oswego.

Fifteen years of experience. Fifteen years of showing up wherever she's needed. Fifteen years of dedication that has made a lasting impact on Oswego's staff, children, and families.

Join us in celebrating Laura and 15 incredible years at COA Oswego! πŸŽ‰

πŸ₯˜ The easiest dinner win for busy weeknights takes five minutes to prep and the oven does the rest.

πŸ— Dump & Bake Creamy Chicken + Rice. One dish, minimal effort, and a dinner the whole family will actually eat.

Ingredients:
1Β½ lbs boneless skinless chicken breast or thighs, diced into 1-inch pieces
2 cups uncooked long-grain white rice, rinsed and drained well
2 cups frozen mixed vegetables
3 cups chicken broth
1 cup heavy cream (or full-fat canned coconut cream for dairy-free)
2 tsp Italian seasoning
1 tsp salt Β½ tsp black pepper
1Β½ cups shredded extra-sharp cheddar cheese, divided

Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 375Β°F. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
2. Add the rinsed rice, frozen vegetables, raw diced chicken, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper to the dish.
3. Pour in the broth and heavy cream (or coconut cream). Stir well and make sure the rice is fully submerged in the liquid.
4. Stir in 1 cup of the cheddar.
5. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 55 minutes.
6. Remove the foil and stir thoroughly. Rice should be nearly tender and chicken should reach 165Β°F.
7. Sprinkle the remaining Β½ cup cheddar over the top.
8. Bake uncovered for another 10 to 15 minutes, until the rice is tender and the cheese is melted.
9. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving so the casserole has time to thicken.

For a dairy-free version, use coconut cream and skip the cheddar. The broth and coconut cream alone still deliver that creamy texture.

Save this one for a night when dinner needs to make itself.

Follow along for a new easy, kid-approved recipe like this every week.

Some nights you need dinner to basically make itself, and this is that recipe. πŸ•

Grease a 12 cup muffin tin, press a slice of biscuit dough into each cup, and make a little well in the center. Spoon in about a tablespoon of sauce, top with cheese and whatever toppings your kids like, then bake at 375 for 15 minutes. That's it.

They work so well for toddlers because everything is already in a perfect, grab it with your hands size. No cutting, no mess, and the sauce well means every bite gets a little bit of everything without the topping sliding off.

Save this one for your next busy night, and send it to a friend who needs a fun dinner idea tonight. πŸ˜‹

Family Fitness Night looked a little different at every school this year, and we loved every minute of it! πŸ•ΊπŸ€Έβ€β™‚οΈ

COA Yorkville, IL turned up the energy with a full neon dance party, glow lights and all, getting families moving to the beat together.

COA Orland Park, IL and COA Wilmington, DE brought the challenge with indoor obstacle courses that had kids and parents crawling, climbing, and cheering each other on.

COA South Elgin, IL took it outside with a family yoga class under the sun, slowing things down for some stretching, breathing, and quality time together.

Different activities, same idea: movement is more fun (and more effective) when the whole family does it together. Dancing, balancing, and stretching all build strength, coordination, and balance, while doing it side by side with family builds confidence, connection, and communication that goes far beyond the workout itself.

Huge congrats to Yorkville, Orland Park, Wilmington, and South Elgin for making Family Fitness Night one to remember. This is what a COA family feels like. πŸ’œπŸ’™πŸ§‘
