On October 15, a group of 8th-grade students from MMS, sponsored by GEAR UP, visited UNC Asheville for a day of college exploration and hands-on learning!

Students explored postsecondary options, toured campus, experienced college dining, and participated in interactive activities in education, study abroad, the maker space, and chemistry.

These experiences help students explore their interests, discover new possibilities, and envision themselves as future college students!

A huge THANK YOU to UNC Asheville for welcoming our students and helping them see what's possible beyond high school!

We missed posting last week for National Yearbook Week last week but we want to celebrate our yearbook staff!

Also, this has been an eventful week, including a Pep Rally, a new experience for our 7th grade students. We played several games, cheered on our sports teams, and came together as a school body to celebrate our successes!

Today, we celebrate our coaches and the hard work, long hours, and heart they pour into our student athletes. From practices and games to planning, preparation, and encouragement, their commitment reaches far beyond the scoreboard.

Thank you for teaching teamwork, building confidence, and helping our students grow as athletes and as people. We see your dedication, appreciate your sacrifices, and are grateful for all you do for our Wildcats!

This week our students have ignited their passion for learning even further! Seventh graders attended STEM trek through Gear-Up and they also visited the Observatory on our school grounds to further their learning about the Scientific Revolution. In 8th grade, our students learned about chemical changes through two labs, their favorite of which was the pancake lab of course! In Art this week students have been focusing on mixing portraits of Frida Kahlo with other art styles from various artists throughout history. We are continuously impressed with the activities and lessons our teachers come up with to engage and inspire our students curiosity, creativity, and passion for learning!

This week we would also like to thank Cornerstone Church for always supporting our students and athletes. Cornerstone Church fed our Football players this week and Pastor Jeremy Smathers spoke to the boys pre-game. We appreciate our Maiden Community and their support of our students!

This week has been filled with amazing learning opportunities for our students from dissecting pig hearts, to learning about the black plague, creating atom families, to learning about Gear-Up and Tutor.com our students have been engaged in a variety of collaborative learning activities. We are thrilled to see our students engaged and excited about learning!

This week our Ignite the Good post focuses on the amazing artwork of our students. Visual Art students studied artist Vincent van Gogh and were inspired by his famous sunflower paintings. Then created their own sunflower to display together as a group.

Our Art Teachers Mrs. Banary and Mrs. Wood do an amazing job having the students collaborate on projects that beautify our school!

Our community is amazing!

This Wednesday, we invite everyone in the RBMS community to wear pink to school and to our home football game vs. Maiden Middle School to show support for Ms. Angela Williams, principal at MMS, who has recently begun treatments for breast cancer. Ms. Williams has served multiple communities in Catawba County Schools during her tenure as an educator, and her sons Matt and Connor, along with her husband Scott, coach football for the Pirates. Let's rally behind Ms. Williams and her family as they take this on.

Please come out to the game Wednesday evening (4:15 at Hill High School)and show your support for Ms. Williams and her family by wearing pink. If you don't have any pink clothing, we will have pink items on sale in addition to a 50/50 drawing for which proceeds will go to the Williams family.

This week has been a challenging week for our Wildcat Family as our Principal, Mrs. Williams, began her fight with Breast Cancer. However, we are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming love and support that has been shown. While we can only post some of the photos of the support shown, we want everyone to know that we appreciate each and every one of you!

The kindness extended by our district, families, staff, students, and community has been truly inspiring. Every prayer, encouraging message, thoughtful gesture, and act of support is a powerful reminder that Mrs. Williams does not face this journey alone.

Thank you for surrounding her and her family with so much strength, hope, and love. Together, we stand with Mrs. Williams every step of the way.

This week to Ignite the Good, our staff worked with hickory_fizz to surprise Mrs. Williams in support of her battle with breast cancer. The Hickory Fizz and staff dressed in pink, created a special drink called “The Fighter” and came out to help us show our support. We appreciate our local businesses always supporting our schools and staff! We will get through this together because we are a Wildcat Family!

Here is a rundown of our upcoming sports events for September. We kick off our Fall Season starting Tuesday with Volleyball & Boys' Soccer. Come out and support our Wildcats! Game admission is $5.00, Maiden Middle School students get into the games for free!
