Today as we come together as a campus community to pause and reflect, we’d like to share a few words from Ramapo College President Cindy Jebb: ”Following the distress of last night’s campus lockdown—and the profound relief that the threat proved to be unfounded—gathering together today feels all the more vital. Moments of fear, much like moments of historical grief, remind us that we are not meant to process uncertainty in isolation. A quarter of a century ago today, our nation underwent an historical transformation.
On this 25th anniversary of 9/11, we honor the memory of those who lost their lives, extend our ongoing support to those shouldering the persistent weight of grief, and pay tribute to the heroism of the emergency personnel and first responders. Further, milestone commemorations serve as critical reminders that history, grief, and trauma are also not meant to be processed in isolation. Both community resilience and individual strength are forged through collective gathering—engaging in empathetic dialogue and active listening, and cultivating meaningful trust-based relationships. Let us carry the memory of this day with us—not only in solemn remembrance, but in the everyday care, empathy, and respect we offer to one another.”
RCNJ is also grateful for the student and staff volunteers who took part in our annual flag planting as part of our remembrance events.
