💙💛 A Letter From Your SEPTO President
Dear Mahopac Families,
I wanted to take a moment to reach out to all of our families and share something that is very close to my heart.
SEPTO is for everyone.
Whether your child has an IEP, a 504 Plan, or is a general education student who may simply need some extra support along the way—you belong here.
Whether your child attends one of our Mahopac schools or is educated in an out-of-district placement—you belong here, too. Please never feel that because your child doesn’t walk through the doors of a Mahopac school building each morning, your family isn’t part of SEPTO. You are. We are your people.
Before I was your SEPTO President, I was—and always will be—a mom navigating this journey alongside so many of you.
As the mom of a child with autism, I know what it feels like to sit in meetings wondering if you’re asking the right questions. I know the worry that comes with wanting to make sure your child has everything they need to thrive. I also know how powerful it is when someone simply says, “I understand. You’re not doing this alone.”
That feeling of community is what I want every family to find in SEPTO.
You don’t need to have all the answers. You don’t need to understand every acronym or know exactly what to ask for. Sometimes you may just need another parent to listen, someone to point you toward a resource, or a community that celebrates your child’s victories right alongside you.
That is why ONE PAC. EVERY STUDENT. means so much more to us than a slogan.
It is a promise that we will continue working toward a community where children aren’t defined by a diagnosis, a classification, a placement, or the services they receive. Every child deserves to feel seen, valued, supported, included, and celebrated.
And their families deserve that same sense of belonging.
I encourage every family in our district to join us. Come to a meeting. Attend an event. Ask a question. Share an idea. Reach out when you need help—or simply come be part of a community that truly cares.
My door is always open. As your SEPTO President, as a member of this school community, and most importantly, as another mom walking this journey too, I am here.
We support each other.
We advocate together.
We celebrate every ability.
And we make sure there is room for everyone at the table.
Because at the end of the day, we are ONE PAC. EVERY STUDENT.
