We had a lovely meeting at White Earth Tribal & Community College on Monday. 28 of us met to talk about planning an Indigenous Water Center.

What could a water center provide our communities if it grew out of our traditions and acknowledged not only our "history" written in texts, but the "long ago" before contact preserved in memories that wind back through time?

A place for women voices?

A center that preserves our language and the living waters that nourish and clense us- really they are one in the same - each flowing in us like a river.

I don't mean to romanticize the past too much, and yet, the long ago sets a place for us to discover our future... One where we remember water as it is woven out of the day to day [and mystical] experiences of women.

The Women Elder's Nibi/Mni Council will be facilitating a planning meeting at White Earth Tribal & Community College on May 11th to help lay a foundation to create an Indigenous Water Center for our region.

The Executive Council of the North Star AISES Alliance & Professional Chapter [NSAAP] want to thank No Fracking Way Turtle Mountain Tribe for their hospitality during our visit to Turtle Mountain this last week.

It was an honor to spend time working with each of you this past weekend and a privilege to learn about the good things your group has achieved protecting your waters and community.
