Get Down & Give Back: A Golden Back-to-School Celebration

Deptford, NJ, September 2, 2025 — Deptford Mall is grooving into a new school year and celebrating its 50th
Anniversary with a golden twist! On Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 12:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M., families are invited to
join the “Get Down & Give Back: A Golden Back-to-School Celebration”—a funky 70’s-inspired afternoon of fashion,
music, contests, and community spirit. Hosted in the Center Court, this special event will highlight five decades of
shopping, style, and connection while giving back to the community.
Guests will enjoy a variety of activities that blend retro fun with today’s trends, including back-to-school fashion
spotlights, lively dance performances, and a collaborative art project celebrating Deptford Mall’s golden milestone.
Adding to the excitement are interactive “class sessions,” where families can join in nostalgic favorites like the Electric
Slide and YMCA, plus contests including Rubik’s Cube challenges, hula hoop competitions, and 70’s trivia games.
Music, contests, and groovy surprises will create a lively atmosphere that captures the joy and energy of both a new
school year and the mall’s anniversary celebration.
Adding to the impact, Deptford Mall is proud to host a Back-to-School Book Drive in partnership with BookSmiles, a
nonprofit dedicated to promoting literacy and supporting underserved families. Shoppers are encouraged to donate
new or gently used children’s and adult books at the designated drop-off area on the Lower Level, Center Court, now
through September 14. Donations will directly benefit local communities by spreading the joy of reading, inspiring
children, and supporting educators. Monetary gifts can also be made online at BookSmiles.org/Donate, with donors
asked to note “Deptford Mall Book Drive” in the comments. During the celebration, Deptford Mall and Macerich will
proudly present BookSmiles with a $3,500 donation check, reinforcing their shared commitment to literacy and community
support.
To make the day even more meaningful, guests who contribute a $5 donation at the event will receive a 70’s-inspired grab
bag filled with fun surprises including sweet treats, prizes, and gift cards. Each donor will be invited to paint a tile for a
large-scale community mural being created in honor of Deptford Mall’s golden anniversary. Each tile will be uniquely
designed by participants and, when assembled, the collection of tiles will form a vibrant, colorful masterpiece that
represents the heart of the community. Families can leave their personal mark—whether it’s a bright design, a cheerful
message, or an expression of creativity—that will become a permanent symbol of unity, imagination, and generosity. This
interactive art project ensures every guest can play a role in shaping a legacy for the mall’s 50th anniversary
celebration.
The event is presented in partnership with GP Entertainment, a premier entertainment company known for producing
high-energy, engaging events across the region. With their expertise in delivering unforgettable performances, GP
Entertainment will bring retro dance numbers, music, and interactive fun that perfectly complement the mall’s
anniversary celebration. Their participation helps ensure that families experience a dynamic afternoon of both
entertainment and community connection.
