You get a steady thickness reading. Move over an inch, and the picture changes.

Corrosion can be uneven, and the outside of a pipe may give you few clues about what is happening inside.

Our latest TXNDT article looks at why knowing where to measure matters just as much as getting a number.

Most NDT textbooks explain what happens.

The really interesting part is seeing it happen.

This photo uses an ASNT Magnetic Particle Testing book as a backdrop while the magnetic field itself becomes visible right on top of it.

At some point, every inspector discovers the difference between reading about a method and actually understanding it.

Can't inspect what you can't see.
When people think about NDT, they usually think about equipment.
UT machines. Yokes. UV lights. Thickness gauges.
But one of the most important inspection tools you'll ever use doesn't come from a catalog.
It comes with you to work every day.

What does this pressure gauge tell us?

Most people would look at this and immediately assume something is wrong.

As inspectors, we're trained to ask a different question:

"What does the acceptance criteria say?"

At first glance, the needle appears to be at the end of the scale.

Does that mean the system is unsafe?

Maybe.

Maybe not.

The most important NDT tool on our desk isn't a yoke, UT machine, or borescope. It's this document.

The ASNT SNT-TC-1A is one of the documents that drives how countless NDT personnel are trained, qualified, and certified across the industry.

When a company hires TXNDT for Level III support, builds a written practice, creates certification exams, or develops a training program, this is one of the primary references that helps guide those decisions.

Good NDT doesn't happen by accident.

It requires standards, structure, documentation, and accountability.

The technicians performing inspections in the field may never carry this book with them (or even see it), but the requirements inside it influence nearly every step of their journey.

Thirty years from now, inspection methods will continue to evolve.

The need for qualified people making sound decisions probably won't.

Need help with training, certification, written practices, or Level III support? Let's talk. www.TXNDT.com

Far fewer actually make it there.

How long does it really take to become an NDT technician?

It's one of the most common questions we hear.

The answer depends on whether you're asking about training, certification, or experience. They're not the same thing.

This week's article breaks down what the path into NDT actually looks like and what you should realistically expect when starting your career.

We are wrapping up an intense week of UT Level I training at Texas NDT - and the intensity is intentional.

Our courses move quickly because we respect our students’ time. We focus on the theory, instrument operation, calibration fundamentals, and hands-on practice they actually need without stretching the training out with unnecessary filler.

A compressed schedule does not mean watered-down training or shortcuts. It means long, focused days, serious study, and an structured path through and meeting the classroom-training requirements commonly used in employer-based programs following ASNT Recommended Practice No. SNT-TC-1A.

Our goal is not to keep students sitting in a classroom any longer than necessary. It is to deliver the training correctly and efficiently so they can get into the field, build the experience required by their employers, and start earning.

After working hard throughout UT Level I, these students are excited to carry that momentum directly into UT Level II next week!

No fluff. No shortcuts. No wasted time. Just serious training for people who are ready to work.
